Imagine being immune to injuries! OOF! I would walk the road everyday without looking. Anyways, our MC aka Kanbara Akihito is immune to injuries that’s why he gets healed up quickly. One strange day, he comes across a girl wearing glasses standing at the rooftop of the school. She was trying to end her life. The supernatural society discriminated strongly against her because of her ability to manipulate blood. Akihito ends up helping her and getting stabbed in return. This incident creates a strange relationship between Akihito and the girl named Mirai.
After getting to know each other, Akihito tried to persuade Mirai into joining the Literary Club, to which she agreed along with its members including the Nase siblings named Hiroomi and Mitsuki. This bond between this group becomes stronger and stronger as they go through different difficulties together. They have to fight for their survival as a strong spirit known as Beyond The Boundary ruins their peaceful life.

These siblings end up encountering Akihito for the very first time but soon it turns out that they weren’t the only one to look for Akihito.

Beyond The Boundary: I’ll Be Here – Future (2015) is the sequel of the main series. After the events of the last episodes in the anime adaptation, Akihito reconciles with Mirai who seemed to disappear after finally destroying Beyond The Boundary. This reunion of Akihito and Mirai is very sad, it’s definitely not giggles and sparks as Mirai has lost all her memories. She forgot about Akihito, her friends, and whatnot! After seeing Mirai’s condition, Akihito is shocked.
However, Akihito believes that it’s a good thing that she lost her memories. Now, she has a chance of living her life as a regular teenager. She will have no connection with the supernatural society now. Akihito, along with his other friends, decides to stay away from Mirai in order to not hurt her or get involved in any supernatural event again.
That’s not just the end. Little did they know, a group of enemies ends up hurting Mirai and that’s how her memories start to come back. As the situation gets worse, Akihito has to take a chance and protect his friends. Will he be able to protect his friends from everyone of his enemies? This is why I told you guys that this anime is going to be full of surprises and twists. If, so far, you’re liking this, you should definitely watch Beyond The Boundary!
WHAT IS BEYOND THE BOUNDARY?
Do you see the cute girl with short pink hair in the picture above? She is one of our main characters and is quite powerful as well. The main idea of this anime came from the light novel with three volumes, it was written by Torii Nagomu and the illustration was done by Kamoi Tomoya.
Kyoto Animation was the one to produce this anime and it was released in October 2013 in Japan. Later on, many OVAs, Specials, and Movies came out. The movies were played in theatres in March and April 2015. That’s quite way back in time, isn’t it?
Kyoto Animation is quite popular, right? It turns out that this animation studio was under the Arson attack back in 2019. 36 people were killed due to the fire, this made the incident one of the deadliest incidents in Japan. Kyoani is just not popular because of this incident. However, it is popular due to its fluid animation and good quality work. Many banger anime were animated by Kyoto Animation including Violet Evergarden, K-On!!, and A Silent Voice. So, if you’re a fan of these anime, you’re going to love this one!
However, Beyond The Boundary is a little bit more different than these slice of life anime. It tells us about adding new villains and intense fighting scenes. It maintains an urban-fantasy environment.
Even if the plot doesn’t sound like it’s very interesting, one thing that I would like to add is that the characters and their interactions with one another is something that makes this anime interesting. Each of the characters show their own personalities and character development. Though, there might be some very basic scenes that might annoy you but there’s always a hidden message behind everything. So, that part of the anime gets to you. It’s quite similar to solving puzzles. At the end, you will be able to understand the whole story. Little by little, bit by bit, try to build the pieces of the puzzle.
If we talk about animation, it’s very nice. It stands out and the fluidity in action is second to none. The animation’s quality is quite high and we can see the full potential of the characters through their actions. So, that’s something we need to keep in mind for good animation. There’s this addictive ending song of Beyond The Boundary, its title is Daisy by Stereo Dive Foundation.
Let me tell you a little bit more details about the plot. The plot revolves around spirit hunters who are taking down spirits. Along with Professor Ninomiya, the Nase siblings, and our second protagonist aka Kurimiya Mirai. However, our MC Akihito slays the spirit hunters if he does go berserk. He has a special power of healing quickly. So, this quality has been proved of much use for him. The girl Mirai, descended from an ancient dynasty and she has a special ability of manipulating blood as well! Because of this specific power, she’s been hated by the supernatural society. OOF!
Mirai has other goals of defeating Akihito since he’s half spirit. Akihito being the half-spirit surely enjoys the benefits of immortality. Imagine how frustrated Mirai would be at not being able to eliminate her enemy. On the other hand, Akihito isn’t all scary and powerful. He’s like other teenagers. Quite average. His life isn’t all roses, he does have to face the consequences of being a half-spirit too.
MAIN CHARACTERS
Akihito Kanbara
Well well well, if this isn’t our immortal boy. Akihito Kanbara is one of the main characters of the series, Beyond The Boundary. He’s a half-spirit and half-human. He can’t be defeated. When it comes to his personality, he’s quite playful and amusing. Akihito loves glasses and he calls the girls who wear glasses, “bespectacled beauties”. Isn’t that cute? Well, I guess he really has some weird preferences. If you want to know more about Akihito Kanbara, watch Beyond The Boundary.
Mirai Kuriyama
Mirai Kuriyama is also one of our main characters who’s got the ability to manipulate blood. She’s greatly hated by the supernatural society. She only has one goal, which is to defeat our MC, aka Akihito. He’s a half-spirit who’s immortal thus, he can’t be defeated. Mirai mostly wears glasses and she has short pink hair. She’s an introverted yet awkward individual too. She really doesn’t stand out much in school and avoid as much attention as she can. That’s why she values her time alone.
Mitsuki Nase
Mitsuki Nase is one of the three Nase siblings. She’s quite frank. However, she’s described as a sarcastic girl. She gets angry easily. Although up front, she has another face, she remains cold. OOF! The characters surely like to keep their true identities hidden, eh?
Izumi Nase
Another Nase sibling, Izumi Nase is one of the main characters in the series. She’s the head of the Nase siblings and is quite responsible too. She’s quite elegant and calm. Even during the most terrible situation, she remains cool. We all need a sister like Izumi! Isn’t that right?
CONCLUSION
Beyond The Boundary indeed has one hell of an interesting story line. It is a story full of twists and dramas. The characters, the powers, and even the villains are super unique. The animation is quite nice as well. When you see the characters giving their all in battles, you’re gonna be super surprised!
