There are very few manga and anime that span an extended period. Hunter x Hunter is one such manga that started back in the late 90s. Because of its unceasing popularity it got anime adaptation later in 2011 and has been reigning our hearts till now.

The quests, rare beasts, treasure hunts, exceptional characters, and their lives kept anime fandom in thrills throughout its tenure. The plot is set in a world where Hunters exist, and they take all sorts of odd jobs. Becoming a Hunter is not an easy thing.

It takes a challenging exam with a meager success rate to become a Hunter. I forgot that it’s not about your regular Hunters with guns or bows. These Hunters have extraordinary powers that one cannot even think about.

Enter Gon Freecss. He is our protagonist, who dreams of becoming an accomplished Hunter like his father. The plot develops when Gon leaves for the Hunter Exam and meets people who become his friends for life.

The adventurous life of Gon, along with his friends and other Hunters, is full of thrill, excitement, and many other emotions. The words from Gon, Killua, Hisoka, Kurapika, and many others left deep impressions on the fans.

Let’s recall their beliefs and principles to pay tribute to such memorable characters.

 

Gon Freecss 

1. If you want to get to know someone, find out what makes them angry.

These are some heavy words coming from a kid. Ture as it is, if you know what makes a person angry or happy, you can understand them better. If being dishonest or seeing injustice makes them angry, they are definitely on the good side. 

 

2. Qualification isn’t something we have to talk about. Those who are not okay with their success can undergo training until they are.

I wonder how this little guy can understand so much about complex subjects. Gon has an iron will to constantly move forward and never give up. Isn’t it natural to work hard until you are satisfied with yourself?

 

3. If you are willing to do whatever it takes, I won’t hold back either.

Neither a threat nor advice, this one is only a statement from a hero with morals and values. Gon respects his opponents who go all out against him by giving his ultimate best. It is his way of acknowledging someone.

 

Killua Zoldyck 

 

1. When I say it doesn’t hurt me, that means I can bear it.

Killua is a cheerful and mischievous kid, yet, at the same time, he is exceptionally kind and brave. He is the dearest friend of Gon and has a will similar to him as well. Killua would go to any length to save his loved ones. He never shows his discomfort or heavy heart because he knows to bear it like a man.

 

2. If I ignore a friend when I have the ability to help, wouldn’t I be betraying him?

True, isn’t it? No matter how childish Killua acts, he won’t back down when it comes to his friends and loved ones. Even if he is on the brink of death, he will stand up to help his friends. For him, it’s betrayal if you ignore your friends in need… and well, it technically it really is.

 

3. Gon, you are light. But sometimes you shine so brightly I must look away. Even so, is it still okay if I stay at your side?

Gon and Killua’s friendship is the most precious thing in HxH. You must have witnessed a lot of bonds between friends; however, Killua’s love, respect, and admiration for Gon are just on another level. He holds Gon very dearly and wonders if he can be as great as him.

 

4. People only find me interesting because they can’t tell whether I am serious or not.

– Killua Zoldyck, Hunter X Hunter

He may be cheeky and cheerful, but he also maintains a serious personality. Believe it or not, this guy can threaten you to death with a smile on his face, and you won’t be able to understand if he was joking or not. People often find Killua interesting because of his nature, and he justifies it with the above words.

 

5. Not killing people is really hard. Clean living is tough.

True that some people make you kill them because of their stupid and frustrating behaviors. I understand where my boy is coming from.

 

6. Who wants their life planned out for them?

That’s right, my boy. This one does not need an explanation. It is simply the truth. No one wants their life planned out for them. It is entirely their choice.

 

Hisoka Morrow 

 

1. Gon is mine, friend. If you make a move on him, you die. 

– Hisoka Morrow, Hunter X Hunter

Don’t jump to conclusions; it may sound like a confession. However, it is a threat from a very obsessive and crazy antagonist. Hisoka appears as one of the antagonists with strange habits. He desires to kill strong fighters and hunters all for pleasure and entertainment. When he sets his eyes on Gon, he instantly becomes his prey, and Hisoka tells the others to back off or else they die.

 

2. It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to ash. 

– Hisoka Morrow, Hunter X Hunter

Well, this eccentric person is right here, though. Depending on circumstances, people and things lose their worth in less than seconds. For Hisoka, his treasure is his prey or target he wants to hunt. Still, if they don’t meet Hisoka’s expectations, they become trash for him in less than seconds.

 

3. The grim reaper’s riddles don’t need anyone to answer.

– Hisoka Morrow, Hunter X Hunter

Frankly speaking, I find this nothing more than scary and eerie. Especially if the one saying it is Hisoka with a sinister smile on his face, then it indeed is worrisome.

 

4. Love and hate are two sides of the same coin.

In all honesty, I never thought that this crazy and bizarre antagonist would ever say such wise words. His words are accurate because the more you love, the more you water the seeds of hatred. They always go side by side.

 

 5. I’ll wait and wait, and when the fruit is ripe, I’ll pluck it. 

– Hisoka Morrow, Hunter X Hunter

Seems like a patient one, no? However, he feels sadistic here. Hisoka is a person who will wait for their opponents to grow stronger and then fight them for the sake of pleasure. For his interests, he might even leave his opponents alive for them to grow strong enough to challenge him and give him a good fight.

 

Meruem 

 

1. In the hands of an incompetent, power brings nothing but ruins. This could only be the work of imbeciles.

– Meruem, Hunter X Hunter

Meruem was one of the main antagonists; however, for a merciless antagonist, he was very understanding and affectionate (specifically to Komugi). He was always proud and confident, thinking he was the only superior being. 

No matter his mindset, what he said holds value. It is true relatively that incompetent people will only bring ruin with power if they don’t know how to handle it.

 

2. Do you humans ever listen to the cries of mercy coming from the pigs and cows you slaughter?

– Meruem, Hunter X Hunter

Meruem always thought of himself as a superior being. He would consider humans lowly, and killing them wasn’t a matter of choice but his nature. He would never lay ears to the pleas of humans and beings he was about to kill. Mr. Villain here would easily justify his intentions with the above words.

Although I agree with his above statement that we never listen to those poor animals. Still, humans and animals are different, no?

 

Ging Freecss

 

1. If I can get the target to move as I want, I have succeeded as a Hunter.

– Ging Freecss, Hunter X Hunter

It is one of the best pieces of advice from one of the best Hunters of all time. It is your win if you can control your target as a Hunter.

 

2. You should enjoy the little detours to the fullest. Because that is where you will find the things more important than what you want.

– Ging Freecss, Hunter X Hunter

Very true! Enjoy the moment you are in, be it intentionally or unintentionally. Sometimes you find the best path from where you expected the least. The same goes for things and memories.

 

3. An apology is a promise to do things differently next time and to keep the promise.

– Ging Freecss, Hunter X Hunter

Frankly speaking, not everyone knows the true meaning of an apology. People tend to make the same mistakes repeatedly and apologize in the end without effort to change their habits. Ging fiercely believed that once you apologize, it means you made a promise to not do that again, and thus, it means to keep that promise.

 

Kurapika 

 

1. It’s easy to lie to avoid a question you don’t want to answer. But… I believe that lying is similar to greed, and it’s a shameful act.

– Kurapika, Hunter X Hunter

Kurapika is one of the deuteragonists of HxH. He holds the reputation of a wise and intelligent character overall. In nature, he is reticent, and that keeps him level-headed. He quoted these words above that are accurate to the core. Lying is similar to greed. In greed, the more you have, the more you want; if you lie, you have to lie again and again to keep it going.

 

2. I do not fear death; I only fear that my rage will fade over time.

– Kurapika, Hunter X Hunter

Kurapika was one of Gon’s friends. However, his aim was to avenge his clan. He was so immersed in revenge that he didn’t care for anything else. Death didn’t bring any fear or worry. Kurapika was only focused on exacting revenge and was always prepared to die for it.

 

3. There are two things that collectors always want. The first is an item of extreme rarity. The second is colleagues to whom they can brag about their collection.

This one is true for ordinary people or rather everyone in general. People want to possess what is expensive and love to show off as long as they have people around. The same goes for collectors; as Kurapika says, their treasure isn’t worth appreciation if there is no one to show it to.

 

4. The only principle is that there are no principles.

This sounds very cold and cruel, yet, coming from Kurapika, it is understandable. People don’t follow the principles; what they know and follow is that there aren’t any principles. He is determined to take revenge for his clan and will follow the same principle.

 

Isaac Netero 

 

1. The human potential for evolution is limitless.

– Isaac Netero, Hunter X Hunter

This guy is the living proof of what he quoted above. At first, he appeared in the series as any other absent-minded, mischievous, and fun-loving gramps. However, looks can be deceiving, and when it comes to Isaac, it is true.

He trained himself day and night and reached the peak of strength. Isaac firmly believes that humans can evolve beyond imagination, which is true.

 

Geretta

 

1. Skill is one thing, and caution is another.

– Geretta, Hunter X Hunter

Geretta was one of the examinees in HxH and a really cautious one. He believed that being cautious can help you a lot. It enhances your skills somehow. Well, it sounds like it is true. It doesn’t hurt to be cautious.

 

Knov 

 

1. Whenever humans encounter the unknown, they tend to lose perspective.

– Konv, Hunter X Hunter

These are a few wise words from a sagacious and serious person. Knov entered the series as an experienced Hunter with excessive knowledge and a calm aura. What he believed about humans is true as well. The fear of the unknown often makes people lose rationality and understanding.

 

Kite 

 

1. Those who call themselves hunters always get their prey.

It is fundamental, however, very cool coming from the cold-hearted and stoic Kite. Hunters don’t have to worry about the prey. They will get it one way or another.

 

2. Whether we win or lose, Hell lies ahead of us.

– Kite, Hunter X Hunter

Just Kite being informational and giving heads up to Gon and others when they were about to fight the Chimera ants. No deep meaning, although it sounds cool with a lot of meaning, no?

 

Leorio Paradinight 

 

1. For the right price, you can buy not only treasures, but dreams, hearts, and even people’s lives.

– Leorio Paradinight, Hunter X Hunter

These are some deep and emotional words from someone who entered the series as a materialistic person. Lerorio is a rookie Hunter with an image of someone who seeks money. As for him, he believes that everything can be bought with money as long as you quote the right price.

 

2. You can’t get over the death of someone you love unless you accept it. That’s how we got over the deaths of our comrades.

– Leorio Paradinight, Hunter X Hunter

Leorio wants to be a doctor and wants to help people that way. He may appear to be a selfish person, but that is only superficial. He is a very deep person with an understanding of life and the value of life. His words left deep impressions on HxH fans when he said you need to accept something if you want to get over it. It won’t end if you don’t start somewhere.

Tada!!! And here we are done with the famous characters and their words that still linger in our memories no matter how much time has passed. The best part of Hunter X Hunter was that every character was built in a detailed and actual way that they felt alive. Their backgrounds, personalities, and words just added to the series’ charm.
