Well well well if this isn’t the anime where our MC has a death note where he can write anyone’s name to see them dead. (it could be his ex too) That got dark real quick. Anyways, what we’re talking about is Light Yagami who obtained a mysterious notebook with a strange title, “Death Note”. In this note, you’re supposed to write down the names of “bad guys” to get rid of crimes. Our boy decided to do that (let’s hope he doesn’t get struck by any dark energy and kills his loved ones). Due to the Death Note, everyone got afraid of our MC.

PLOT + SUMMARIES 

Death Note 2006 (MOVIE) 

Have you ever wanted to see anime characters coming to life? I’m sure we all have wished to see anime characters come to life. That’s where the Netflix adaptation steps in. For some of us, it fulfils our life-long wish, while others think that the anime has been completely destroyed for them. But I must say, Death Note’s Netflix adaptation isn’t that bad. I mean, there’s a shinigami in this movie which is very hard to cosplay. If you wanna see him, look at this picture of him. (netflix adaptation) 

So, let’s now talk about what is Death Note and what’s the plot of Death Note 2006 movie. The plot revolves around our smartypants Light Yagami who’s a university student. Light is the type of person who hates corruption and criminal activities. One strange day, he finds a very suspicious notebook with the title, “Death Note”.

This notebook becomes his unique ability. The instructions in this notebook are rather scary because it’s been clearly written that “whoever gets his/her name written in this notebook is going to die”. Imagine you have a Death Note, whose name are you going to write? (please don’t write mine) 

At first, when Light got this notebook, he wasn’t sure if it’s legit or not. However, after experimenting with it, he realized that it’s authentic. Since he met with the previous owner of the notebook aka the shinigami named Ryuk. He realized that this may be the next step for him to get rid of corruption and criminal activities. That’s when our boy decides to become “The God of the New World” by writing the name of evil people inside the death note. OOF! 

Now, imagine you have been killing criminals constantly. Suddenly crime activities drop! The detectives will surely get suspicious of this drop. Isn’t that right? They won’t get paid because Light has been doing their work for them. Anyways, just like that, the whole interpol gets suspicious of the countless number of deaths.

A very peculiar detective known as L declares that the killer (Kira) is somewhere inside Japan. Since the murderers die without any marks or injury. He also concludes that the killer kills them without even laying his finger on them. On the other hand, Light comes to the conclusion that L will be his deadly enemy. There will be a psychological game of mouse and cat between the both of them. Let’s see how things go between the two of them. 

Light has an encounter with the detective from the FBI and he ends up killing the members. One of the members of the FBI had a fiance named Naomi Misora who ends up kidnapping Light’s girlfriend. She accidentally shoots Light’s girlfriend and then ends up killing herself too. Now, Kira or Light gets super sorrowful due to the death of his girlfriend, he decides to get back at the detectives and is planning a revenge now! Let’s see what happens! 

 

Death Note (2006) ANIME 

Pretty much like the plot of Death Note 2006 Movie, Death Note anime tells us about our MC who hates corruption and crimes. In the busy city of Tokyo, there’s a high schooler named Light Yagami who comes across a very mysterious notebook with the title “Death Note”. The power of the notebook can’t be underestimated since it can kill anyone whose name is written inside it. But the user of the notebook must know about the face and the name of the person he wants to kill. DARK! 

Light decides to kill criminals on a high level using his notebook. He wasn’t really sure if the notebook works, so the previous owner of the notebook showed up and told him everything. The previous owner was none other than Ryuk, the shinigami. Even if you haven’t watched Death Note, you must be familiar with this scary-looking shinigami. Anyways, he dropped the Death Note in the human world, now he’s amused by Light’s actions. 

As the criminals were dying, the global media figured out that a very big mastermind is behind this activity who’s been killing criminals without even having any contact with them. I mean, guys, imagine, there’s a criminal lying dead in the ground and you’re a detective. You find no signs of any injury.

What will you do? Of course, you will get shocked. Now, we have L who’s a detective, he is trying to start a war with Light Yagami. This was the overall plot of Death Note. Let’s see what happens next! 

 

Death Note 2: The Last Name (2006) MOVIE

Death Note 2: The Last Name (2006) is another movie that tells us the story of Misa. Do you know Misa? The ultimate gothic waifu!! YES! So, she appears in this movie along with her shinigami who gives her another Death Note. After what happened with Light and the task force, Misa becomes the new Kira. She also forced everyone to broadcast her messages on T.V., A TRUE BADASS OMG! Anyways, Misa has the special ability of using her eyes and targeting the critics of Kira. She ends up killing them. 

Due to Misa, the lives of other people are at stake. For instance, Light’s sister’s life was at stake. She almost gets killed but Soichiro ends up getting involved while wearing a helmet. That’s why Misa was unable to see Soichiro’s face. Now, Light is busy comforting his sister and Soichiro. Misa shows up and looks at him in an interesting way. She asks Light to join her and cleanse the world by being Kira. 

Light sees that she’s got the Shinigami eyes, and he ends up accepting her request. A meeting is set up between Misa and L. Poor Misa gets arrested by L instead. Seeing the threat from Misa, Light ends up burying his Death Note and Rem (Misa’s Shinigami) gives it to the reporter Takada. His plan is to sit right inside the jail and continue the killings of Kira.  

After some time, Light and Misa become free people. However, L can keep watching them through surveillance. Light finds out about Takada holding the Death Note for Misa and that’s when he assists the police in arresting her. Just like that, the police learn about the Shinigami and the Death Note, it becomes a mess!

Light got rid of his memories by burying the Death Note, but after touching it, his memories come back! The only question is how did Light defeat Takada? Well, through a small piece of the Death Note hidden inside his watch, he killed Takada. Pretty impressive, right? After police witnessed this right in front of their eyes, they decided to let Misa and Light go. 

Now, Light and Misa partner up, he asks Misa to give him back the Death Note so he can defeat L. Both of them have different but somewhat same goals. It’s kind of complicated. While Light is busy thinking of ways to kill L, Misa continues her killing spree. On the other hand, L decides to send his team and Light to America to test whether the 13 day rule is legit or not. Rem wants to Kill L to protect Misa. We know how a Shinigami can’t protect humans, Rem ends up dying. *sad noises* 

Since the police keep bothering Light, he tries to write his father’s name inside the Death Note but strangely, his father doesn’t die. WHOA! What could this mean? Light gets surrounded by the police officers and L also appears. Later, his father reveals that he scheduled his death which is in a month. 

That’s why writing his name right now would be useless. OMG, now is the moment, Light asks for help from his Shinigami. Light asks Ryuk to kill the people who have surrounded him, but the Shinigami ends up killing Light instead. He also says that humans who own the Death Note don’t go to Hell or Heaven. They go into nothingness. 

So, Light will spend his life in nothingness. Light ends up dying in the arms of his father. The police decide to cover up the story by saying that Kira killed Light and after some days, Soichiro meets L before he dies. The movie ends with Ryuk above the Tokyo Tower laughing. 

 

L Change The World (2008) MOVIE 

We all know L won’t last for long. His one last case involves a bioterrorist. It’s a group that has only one goal which is to wipe out humanity using a virus. Is it just me or did Death Note predict coronavirus? The infection rate of this virus is 100x more than the ebola virus. Due to the spreading of this virus, there’s only one survivor who’s a gifted maths student. L took this student under his wing named Maki Nikaido. 

Dr. Nikaido got a sample of this dangerous virus which destroyed his village. OUCH. The plot takes a fatal turn when his assistant reveals that she belongs to the organization who made this virus. Now, Dr. Nikaido prepared the antidote of the virus and he decided to not give it to the assistant. Later on, his assistant kills him but the war hasn’t ended just yet.. She has a strong feeling that the daughter of Dr. Nikaido might have the antidote. 

Now, the assistant, along with other assistants, goes to Maki’s place. Maki runs and escapes. She successfully ends up finding the headquarters of L. The group of assistants manages to track Maki’s location. At the very end, L and Maki take a tech crepe truck and escape through it. Maki being the smart kiddo, decided to inject the antidote before those scary assistants try to kill her out of hatred. During Maki’s journey, she seems to have developed romantic feelings for L. OMG! That’s so cute. 

L and Maki go to the Nikaido’s Lab to create the antidote again. Since she didn’t show any signs of infection or virus, Dr. Matsudo decided to help them in making the antidote. They tried hard enough to create the antidote but they just couldn’t. At the very last part, a boy ends up solving a puzzle which gave the hint to making the cure.

They decided to use the boy’s blood to make the antidote. On the other hand, during this process, Maki had run off to avenge her father’s death which resulted in her getting kidnapped by the assistants or should I say, the terrorists? Well, just like that, L succeeded in making the antidote and Maki is with the terrorists. 

L steps in and then decides to help Maki and the other passengers by injecting them with the antidote. Maki wanted to kill Kujo out of rage. However, she was stopped by L since doing that won’t bring father back. The terrorists then get arrested. Maki wakes up inside a hospital fully cured and L tells her to have a good day. L decides to take the nameless boy to the nearest orphanage and that’s when he decides to name the boy “Near”. 

 

Death Note: Light Up The New World (2016) MOVIE 

Ten years after L’s death, unexpected deaths are taking place once more! Death Notes are back! The Interpol is run by L’s successor aka Ryuzaki. They go to the brand new task force, aka “Death Note Task Force”. They get the Death Note from the task force after the owner of the Death Note known as Sakura Aoi is killed. When they touch this Death Note, the task force meets the owner aka the Shinigami known as Beppo. This Shinigami exposes that there are currently 6 Death Notes in the human world. OH MAN, is it all coming back again? Now, the sole goal of the task force is to find out the remaining five Death Notes. 

Aoi’s killer named Yuki Shien who’s also a cyber terrorist, claims that he’s got all the remaining Death Notes. He also tells that he’s on a mission with Light and his Shinigami, Ryuk. He also contacts Light’s girlfriend, Misa, and forces her to disclose all the information about Light. She claims that Light died years ago. Our smart boy kills some of the Death Note owners while trying to locate them. Ryuzaki releases another video of L inviting Kira to a website where he’d trick him into exposing his location. Shein kills one of the original Kira investigators. OOF! 

Mishima finds a hidden and mysterious message inside Ryuzaki’s video where he claims that he’s got the last Death Note. However, Mishima goes to his place and sees that his Death Note is blank. What might happen next? There’s only one way of finding out, watch Death Note: Light Up The New World. In a world of countless mysteries, who’s the winner and who’s the loser? 

 

Death Note (2017) MOVIE 

It is an American supernatural film in which we see many bold american names for instance, Light is referred as Light Turner. WHOA! Let’s find out what happens in this movie! This movie takes place in Seattle Washington where Light Turner seems to have found a mysterious notebook with a leather covering, it is titled as the “Death Note”.

One of the instructions inside the notebook says that if you write someone’s name inside this notebook, he or she will die. Light Turner got extremely nervous after reading that and was wondering if such a thing is actually possible. Then, he meets the actual owner of the notebook who was none other than Ryuk. 

Ryuk is kind of a spirit who taught him how to use the notebook. Well, Light Turner experimented around with the notebook and wrote one of the bullies’ names, the bully ended up dying. WHOA! After seeing that this thing actually works, our boy decided to write the name of his mother’s killer inside the notebook and it turns out that he died. 

So, he believed that the Death Note is legit and it actually works. He shows this notebook to one of his school fellows and decides to take down criminals through this notebook. Imagine you had a Death Note, what changes will you bring into this world? Will the changes be good or will you turn into an evil person?

There’s only one way to find out, get yourself a Death Note right now! It’s always good to have the superior hand but you must never stop believing in karma and stay true to who you are.
