I’ll try my best to satisfy your refined palate with a list of anime that you will most probably want to entirely watch.

Thank me in advance, you can also worship me if you want, I won’t stop you, I just saved you at least a year of anime searching. So without further delay, let’s dig into the list of the Best Military Anime.

The Marines became the most important people in the country since they are the ones protecting its borders. A special division reserved for girls was created called Blue Mermaids and all the young maidens are dreaming of joining their ranks.

Don’t worry, you won’t be seeing bulky girls who look like gorillas, they are actually feasts for the eyes who shouldn’t be near the Military. Our future looks grim but cute at the same time.

Two childhood friends, Akeno Misaki and Moeka China, managed to enter the training program and became captains of their very own fleet.

While Akeno was out at sea with her crew. Because of an idiot’s blunder, they ended up stranded and their lives are now in grave danger.

It is up to Moeka to come to their rescue, that’s if she manages to get along with her underlings or she will most probably be facing the same fate soon.

The situation doesn’t really look good for us, the frontlines are losing ground and soon the battlefield will be rampaging in the middle of the few standing cities.

And of course, befitting of our weird anime logic, our only hope are kids piloting machines that were baptized Tactical Surface Fighters (TSF).

Raised just like soldiers, they have no emotions nor will of their own. The mission is everything, their lives, or the lives of any other human being for that matter, come in second place.

Now, I’m starting to believe that our Führer faked his death and is still in control of the military.

 

57. Mars Red

“Ascra” is like a drug for vampires, it’s a synthetic source of blood that eventually makes them multiply at an astonishing rate. Tokyo is now governed by them and it’s humankind that is facing extinction.

To avoid the worst, Lieutenant General Sounosuke Nakajima created a new military unit composed of newly turned vampires called “Code Zero”.

Under the command of Colonel Yoshinobu Maeda, they have to locate and destroy the source of the drug trade and kill as many vampires as they can while they are at it. “Caught”…traitors…”Caught”.

Now rejected by their own kind and hated by the humans they are trying to protect, they must be real masochists to accept this horrible fate, just like Haise Sasaki’s unit of one-eyed ghouls.

Second Lieutenant Kei Agemaki has a phobia of anything supernatural, which is understandable if they weren’t part of every person’s everyday life. So it’s like having an incomprehensible fear of dogs or I don’t know, fireworks?

So when he was reassigned to go work with Youkai coworkers, his worst nightmare became reality. And he couldn’t complain because he was the son of a super famous general and had to uphold the family’s honor.

Good for him, his fear completely disappeared when those infamous Youkai’s turned out to be rare beauties. Boys will be boys and in the end, they think with only one part of their bodies (wink wink). Of course, their heart!

The nightmare turned into a utopia where he was to solve supernatural cases with his supernaturally pretty nakama and he couldn’t be happier to the point where he might stall the investigation for his own benefit.

 

55. To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts

We are in the middle of the Patrian civil war and the Southern forces have the upper hand. In order to regain the advantage, the Northern forces discarded all morales and started experiments on their soldiers to create creatures half-humans, half-beast, baptized Incarnates.

The experiment worked and they dominated the battlefield but the consequences were brutal since those enhanced soldiers began to lose their minds to the beast in them.

To solve the situation, they trained highly talented soldiers to become Beast Hunters and there was one that was especially effective, he was the Special Sergeant Major and the ex-captain of the Incarnates, Hank Henriette.

At some point, he killed a target who happened to be the father of Nancy Schaal Bancroft. The girl filled with grief and rage vowed to kill the monster who took her father fromher.

However, when she met him, her opinion completely changed since she understood why his actions were necessary.

 

54. Dies Irae

We are back in Berlin, another war is raging, and the Red Army committed a massacre in order to offer the lives they took as sacrifices in a morbid ritual meant to bring back the 13 Lances, overpowered beings who will bring destruction upon the entire Earth.

The ritual concluded, but no one knows if it was successful or not since the people who participated, all mysteriously died. Serves them right, I hope their victims are torturing them in hell right now.

Let’s travel to the present. Ren Fujii is currently in the hospital because he was in a fight with his friend and they almost killed each other. Just what did they do to each other to come to that point?

Since then, every night, he would have disturbing dreams. He would see guillotines, a bunch of murders killed ruthlessly, and knights dressed in black hunting them. In his place, I would’ve run to a shrink by now.

He was about to lose it and he just wants things to go back to normal but his friends’ words are still resonating in his mind: “Everyone who remains in this city eventually loses their minds.”

 

53. Macross Frontier

Life on the Macross Frontier was unexpectedly peaceful, and as if things were back to normal, they organized a concert and invited a super famous singer to come and perform, her name was Sheryl Nome.

A newbie mecha pilot called Alto Saotome was part of the security team when yet another alien threat invaded the event venue. They were a powerful biomechanical alien species that had their eyes on the performer.

Alto managed to save her and the military acknowledged his skills. As a reward, they invited him to officially join their ranks and lose his life on the frontlines in the war against the new threat. Who would pass out on such a nice prize?

 

52. Azur Lane the Animation

I know you’re bored of alien invasions, but what can I say, they are more interesting than a war between normal humans, no? Okay no, some awesome wars are coming up, but don’t underestimate this one, you’re gonna like it, especially you boys, lots of angel-like girls are on the menu.

So, Sirens are an alien race that came to take over the Earth. For the first time in anime history and our history as well, the entire human race joined forces against one common enemy and their power was unimaginable.

However, when the threat was gone, the greedy stupid humans just couldn’t keep it together and just had to find some kind of misunderstanding to impose their dominance. So now the Earth is divided between two major forces, the Sakura Empire and the Iron Blood.

And who’s standing in the middle of the power struggle? The war hero is called the “Grey Ghost” who is believed to be an incredible warrior while she is in fact an innocent girl who is scared of water.

How dense can they be to not have realized that by now, after years of overseas fighting where she would make the most hilarious faces before deployment?

 

51. Sound of the Sky

Although it is military-themed, this anime is unexpectedly refreshing. Let’s travel to Seize, a small town in the country of Helvetia. The citizens live happily despite the fact that the relationship between them and their neighbors goes down the drain by the minute.

The 1121st platoon of the Helvetian army is located in that small town and is in charge of their protection and today, they just gained a new nakama, the young and energetic Kanata Sorami.

Weirdly enough, she entered the military to study how to play the bulge. I think a music teacher would’ve been enough but some people are just that extreme or just that dumb.

She became the apprentice of Sergeant Major Rio Kazumiya, a trumpet player, and befriended a peculiar bunch who instead of preparing themselves for war go and goof off in the streets of Seize, learning their traditions and culture.

 

50. Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade

In a parallel timeline, Japan isn’t the Japan that we know and love. World War II had catastrophic consequences on the country that is now a war zone devastated by terrorism.

During those disturbing times, the military caught wind of an illegal terrorist transaction and sent the anti-terrorism unit to sabotage their plans.

Constable Kazuki Fuse, one of their best soldiers was part of the operation and was faced with an excruciating dilemma. Let a teenage girl blow herself up along with half of Tokyo or kill her with his own hands. He hesitated and the worst happened.

Left mentally damaged, the military lost faith in his abilities and sent him back to the military academy. There he will get trapped in the disgusting conspiracies of the higher-ups who hold the future of the country in their corrupted hands.

 

49. Valvrave the Liberator

For some reason, we humans just love conflict. The war started on Earth and continued far into space. So the people could have at least some peace of mind, they made neutral zones where war was banned.

The second thing we love the most is breaking the rules, and one of the major forces attacked one of the neutral zones, throwing into chaos the life of young Haruto Tokishima.

The goal of the invaders was to put their hands on an overpowered suit of armor that for some unexplainable reason is hidden in the school of a 17-year-old boy. I know the anime is not supposed to reflect reality, but come on, that’s just way too far-fetched.

In order to protect his friends, Haruto enters the armor and forms a contract with it stealing the power the invaders were after, but the price to pay was in no way cheap, it was his humanity.

However, I think the armor forgot to collect it cuz he is now fighting to free humanity from the never-ending war.

 

48. How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom

The Elfrieden Kingdom is a weak sovereignty that doesn’t have the power to defend itself against the dark forces.

The higher-ups decide to summon a hero from another world but instead of using him as a weapon, they decide to use him as a bargaining chip so other Kingdoms will take on the task of defending them.

The hero who had zero intentions of being sold like some slave royally manipulated them and in only one week managed to put the land back on its feet using only economic reforms.

He stole the control of the kingdom, stole the throne and even the princess from under their noses. Normally I would tell you that with power comes great responsibilities, but in his case, the power came with a great number of beautiful women.

I hope he can keep his head straight; he still has an army to command and a war to win.

 

47. Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World

Some people wield a mysterious power called Astral, those people are called Astral Mages. And you know, humans are bitter people jealous of the ones who have more than they do, so the normal ones, backed by the Empire, started to persecute them relentlessly.

The Astral Mages joined forces and formed the Nebulis Sovereignty to fight back and a war exploded between the two forces.

It is nice to see that some people still have that stupid kind of moral that will put them in trouble like knight Iska who decided to free a witch. He was caught in the act and sentenced to life in prison for treason.

A year passed and he was given a shot at freedom, a shot that was actually a death sentence since he was asked to kill the infamous “Ice Calamity Witch“. Just by the title she was given, you can guess that she’s much stronger than a puny knight.

Hoping that he can end the war if he managed to make a miracle happen he went after her only to discover that they have the same goal, peace.

Foes become friends or a little bit more than friends. He may be weak but Iska is super good-looking. In the end, they join hands to save their home.

 

46. Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Two galactical global forces, the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance have been stuck in a standoff for more than 150 years. Thanks to the new leaders of each side, the situation finally started to unravel.

On one side we have the fervent military prodigy Reinhard von Lohengramm, and on the other FPA’s aloof historian, Yang Wenli.

Reinhard is currently fighting to end the war while hunting down the survivors of the Goldenbaum Dynasty. He also has to save his sister from the hands of Kaiser. Finally, he wants to unify humankind and appoint a candid ruler. Okay, that’s a lot to do, procrastination would be my solution.

On the other hand, Yang is trying to impose his democratic ideals and wants to completely eradicate autocracy from his regime. Not a task list as long as the other, but still, it’s easier said than done.

Good luck to both of them, we will be cheering comfortably from the sidelines.

 

45. 86

The Republic of San Magnolia is currently at war with the Giadian Empire and they have been claiming that they suffered no casualties up till now. I don’t know what kind of idiot would believe that lie, the entire Republic it seems.

The truth is that there are 85 declared units and a secret 86th unit that is sent to die on the frontlines under the command of cruel “Handlers“.

Vladilena Milizé is the newly appointed Handler, and she is an ideologist who wants to restore the equality between the squadrons.

Shunned because of her ideals, her only supporter is a veteran soldier of the 86th unit who came back intact from every battlefield he was on.

In the names of his fallen comrades who died without ever getting the recognition they deserved, he will make sure that Vladilena’s wishes become reality.

 

44. The Rising of The Shield Hero

At first glance, when I tell you that this anime is about four heroes summoned from another world to save a parallel one, you’re gonna diss me, asking me what in the world is it doing in that list.

The answer is simple, the entire anime is about warfare. From one side, we have an army of monsters trying to destroy Melromarc, from another, humans from yet another world trying to kill the four heroes so their home is safe from those same monsters.

Melromarc raised an army of its own and was about to give the command to the three idiots who thought that that was all a game. Fortunately, they realized before it was too late, that it was the mediocre one who was actually overpowered.

The story is a bit deeper than that, with lots and lots of betrayals mixed with dramatic bursts of emotions, unrequited love, massacres, and cruelty. I don’t know how all of that can go together, but it’s kind of working for a lot of Otakus.

 

43. The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt

This anime is one of my personal favorites. It’s about a super lazy yet super smart and talented Prince who rules over a hopeless country.

His dream is to find a stupid buyer, sell his home and retire forever on some paradisiac island with his ravishing right hand.

To do so, he was to prove the country’s worth but every plan he comes up with unravels so well that he is gaining power every day and is unable to get rid of his dominion.

All the neighboring countries now have their eyes on him, and his despair grows bigger every day along with the huge amount of tasks and responsibilities that he tries to pin on anyone but him.

However, his watchful right hand isn’t going to let him slack off anytime soon. All his escape plans have yet to succeed which is weird for a guy that should be able to outsmart everyone.

 

42. Hundred

The more compatible you are with your weapon the stronger you are and there was one human that was syncing perfectly with his Hundred.

He was invited to “Little Garden” as an honor student to hone his skills and become the warriors that will give humanity the upper hand in the upcoming war.

Instead of attracting the eyes of the enemy, his power attacked all the female students of the school who are now fighting each other for his affections.

Don’t worry catfights aren’t the only battles you are going to witness although I know that is actually what you want, we’ll get our fair amount of bloodshed and elaborate strategies.

 

43. The Irregular at Magic High School

What do we love the most? OP characters and super smart ones. Well, here we have an MC who is both, plus he is dark and mysterious and extremely handsome.

Let’s jump into the future. Technology is greatly advanced and those who have an affinity with psion can earn the ability to use magic. Those artificially made magicians are mostly used by the military and turned into weapons of destruction even if they are only teenagers.

Those magicians are sent to a Magic Highschool and of course, not all of them are equal. Depending on their talent they get to enter the First Course classes (Bloom) or the Second Course classes (Weed).

Tatsuya ended up a Weed. Discriminated against and looked down upon by most of the students, none of them realize that they have been bugging the wrong person.

Due to the god-like powers that he wields, all the other types of magic that he should’ve been able to use have been sealed off along with all his emotions.

Already under the military’s control, they have been using him like an overpowered tool for their benefit. However, that tool that looks docile from the outside is planning, not a revenge, but to obtain his freedom. If he does, he can actually take over the entire world by himself.

 

42. Chrome Shelled Regios

The Earth is devastated, it became a wasteland infested with mutated monsters. The air is now unbreathable, and the humans retreated inside the moving fortresses called “Regios”.

They created special weapons capable of harming those monsters and mastered them, thus acquiring the ability to use a power that they baptized “Kei”.

Layfon Alseif just moved to an Academy City to move away from his bloody past and was determined to become a scholar.

However, power can rarely be kept secret and on his very first day, his astonishing strength was discovered by the Student Council President who forced him to enroll in the military program and he became a member of the 17th Military Arts Platoon.

Thrown once again on the battlefield, he is still determined to keep his overpowered abilities hidden even if it meant deceiving his new Nakamas.

Looks like he didn’t learn his lesson yet and when the truth came out the repercussions weren’t very nice. It began with a slap, then a beating and now he has to find a way to make amends. Risking his life on a daily basis should cut it.

 

41. Black Bullet

A virus broke out on Earth and every infected human turned into a monster that they soon began to call “Gastrea”.

Impossible to harm, humanity was supposed to be done for until they discovered a metal called “Varanium”. For them, Varanium is like silver is to vampires.

That was hope number one. Hope number two are cursed children who contracted the virus but didn’t fully turn, instead, they became overpowered.

Instead of worshiping them, the humans persecuted them as if they were the real monsters who destroyed their peaceful lives.

Each cursed child is supposed to have an Initiator, a sort of guardian that has to keep an eye on them and fight alongside them.

This anime is about an unusual pair, a pair that will let us witness the beauty of an unbreakable bond that flourished between two people who should be despising each other.

 

40. Akame Ga Kill

You most probably already heard about Akame Ga Kill. A series about overpowered teenagers with a kink for blood and justice wielding fantastic weapons.

They joined forces and build an assassination unit as part of the revolutionary army to fight against the tyranny of the King.

However, the King isn’t the one sitting on the throne, that guy is just a gullible puppet who does everything his Prime Minister tells him to do. If you didn’t get it, the prime minister is the villain here.

In his defense, he is just a kid, but density, or stupidity to be exact has limits. Raise the taxes in the name of justice he says, make the maiden my concubine in the name of justice he continues and the farce goes on, and yet, the kid still has no clue that he is not fighting for justice.

Anyway, once again, it is up to teenagers’ professional assassins to save the people from their misery.

 

39. Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta (The Pilot’s Love Song)

He was sent to the sky island to attend the military pilot academy called Cadoques High’s Aerial Division where he started working on getting closer to his objective. Things were going smoothly until a surprise attack dragged him and all his classmates to a ruthless battlefield.

 

38. Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann

Don’t worry they are not gonna neutralize the enemies with their charms although they most probably could. Those girls have the power of the “Kanmusu” inside them. That means that their body harbors the soul of warships that they can harness and use to fight.

Fubuki just joined the fleet. Even though she is just a newbie with no experience, she was immediately thrown on the battlefield. The obvious happened, she was about to get squashed when her Senpai’s saved her

If the goal of her superiors was to motivate her the sadistic way, job well done since the shy girl now wants to become as powerful as her saviors.

One of the students there was a slave, a slave who had lost his memories and a very talented one at that, his name was Teito Klein.

Forbidden to feel or experience any sort of pleasure, his entire world revolved around his one and only friend, his brother, Mikage.

The higher-ups, the judges for the upcoming exams, arrived at the base. When Teito set his eyes on the captain, flashes of memories invaded his mind. That guy, that monster killed his father.

Filled with rage and utter stupidity, he rushed on a soldier clearing way stronger than he was who was in addition surrounded by guards.

At that point, he had committed treason and was sent to prison. When Mikage learned the news, he went  to his rescue, another idiotic move, those guys form a good pair, Teito didn’t really need any help to escape some puny prison bars.

He found refuge in a church, a church that will turn out to be linked to his past. He will also learn that there is something dormant in him and that he is actually way more powerful than he thought he was.

However, before unraveling all the mysteries surrounding him, saving the friend he left behind comes first. Let’s hope he is not too late.\

Humanities hero is a mentally damaged kid with a deeply rooted trauma who can’t stop himself from diving head first into the enemy lines every time he sees a blood-sucking creature. Some hope we have here.

For some reason, the humans left behind decided to wage war against those in space. I guess they have a death wish, they don’t stand a chance.

They struggled better than expected and the fighting caused the moon to explode—forcing the two armies to temporarily bury the hatchet of war.

15 years later, peace was still here but was hanging on to a thread. The Martian Princess came down to Earth to fortify their relationship where she nearly lost her life in an assassination attempt.

That was it for peace, each side picked up their weapons, blood filled the streets and it’s again up to a bunch of teenagers to stop the aimless war.

This anime is the talk of the year and it’s a must-watch. There are only a few episodes released up till now and all the hype it got before coming out was well-deserved.

We have a professional spy, codenamed Twilight. He never failed a mission in his life, all the jobs he took on were done to perfection. He is the role model of all the other spies in the world and only a handful of people know what he really looks like.

His perfect record was going to be stained big time when he was given the most impossible mission ever. Build a family they say, it’s for the safety of the country they say. So he has to get married, have a kid, and all that in 1 month.

Looks like the agency doesn’t know how kids are made, it takes a lot more time than that. Regardless, he got to work.

He adopted a kid and he really has a good eye for talent or was royally duped by the midget cuz she manipulated him into taking her in after reading his mind and impressing him. Yeah, the kid is a telepath.

Now for the difficult part, the wife. I won’t tell you how they met and what happened to them cuz that episode is hilarious, I will just tell you that the woman is a professional assassin.

So here you have it the perfect dysfunctional family of a spy who is using them to commit murder. But what he doesn’t know, they are using him as well…

He tried to keep himself from fanboying but oh my god he was about to be Isekai’d for real!

They are beats, monsters, or can maybe even be compared to gods on the battlefield, or they can be some sort of reincarnation but what is sure is that this anime will offer you some of the best fight scenes you have ever witnessed.

For those who don’t know what a Valkyria is, google it. Although they have nothing to do with this anime, it’s just interesting info.

The Europan Imperial Alliance broke the treaty and attacked the neutral safe zones of the war to put their hands on a huge reserve of Ragnite.

They already had the advantage in the war. They were superior strategists, had all the latest technologies, and their military power was astonishing. Why do they want more? Greediness brings forth Karma.

And that Karma will materialize in the shape of a girl that will become the biggest torn on their side. The kind of thorn that’s impossible to remove.

 

17. Berserk

I don’t think that I have to narrate to any of you what Berserk is about. Any Otaku worthy of the names at least heard about it. It’s one of the most magnificent anime ever made and that’s not just my personal opinion.

So instead of telling the story, I will be blessing you with some juicy information. After the author of Berserk tragically died, the manga, as well as the anime, were on hold. I was unsure if anyone was up to the task of finishing this masterpiece.

A courageous artist finally came forth and the recap of the series is now confirmed. He better make it a good one. If he spoils the ending, he won’t get out of it in one piece.

 

16. Arslan Senki

Although weak and pampered, using his charisma and kind soul he managed to touch the hearts of the hidden talents that were scattered across the kingdom.

Now at his side, we have a genius strategist with Lelouch’s intellect, a first-class sniper armed with Usopp’s aim, a spy who would make Twilight jealous, and many more unique characters!

So as you can see, we have an unstoppable team with a wimp as captain on a mission to regain their stolen home.

 

15. The Saga of Tanya the Evil

In his stead, I wouldn’t place my trust in my memory like he did when he decided to go rescue the famous figure, Nobuna Oda. But wait a sec! Why is he a she? Actually, why are all the he’s–super-cute a she?

Most of the team is now terrified of him, but Alice still believes that his gentle soul will be the one prevailing and keeps him by her side. I expect her to be squashed to death in the near future.

All he has to do is look in the eyes of his target and he will obey ANY command. He put on a mask, called himself Zero, took command of the entire Japanese forces, and waged an all-out war against the unjust empire.

He will destroy the current world and build one anew, one where his sister will be able to live happily. Talk about a major sister complex.

Filled with grief, sorrow, and rage the brat swore revenge on his father’s killer. Well, he should aim his sword at his own throat, we all know who the real killer is.

Too weak, too inexperienced, who did he decide to take as a mentor? The same man he is trying to kill. He became his handyman, his lap dog and his reward are duels he always loses to keep him motivated, that’s just sad, extremely sad, and pitiful as well.

I don’t know about you but I have so many new anime I added on “my to watch list” that it’s going to take me forever to keep up with and I’m ecstatic about it.
