Izana Kurokawa is the legendary former 8th leader of the gang everyone fears, “Black Dragons”. He’s also one of the antagonists in Tokyo Revengers. When it comes to diversity in characters and gangs, Tokyo Revengers should be at the top of the list. (Of course, after One Piece and many more HAHA)
Moreover, Izana is one of the most unforgettable characters in the series. After all, he had an exceptional fight against Mikey. Today, we’re going to take a look at this character. So, are you guys ready? Let’s get started!
Appearance
Izana Kurokawa is known for two outfits in the Tokyo Revengers Series. One of his outfits is the uniform of the Tenjiku that we can see him wearing in the manga. While the other outifit can be seen on the cover of Volume 17.
His very first appearance or you can call it his “OFFICIAL LOOK” comprises a red jacket with black outlines on the edge of zipper lines. He usually keeps his jacket open and wears a T-shirt beneath the jacket along with his hanafuda-inspired earrings. His earrings really match the color scheme of the Tenjiku uniform. His other look, which is on volume 17 of the manga, features a black net jacket with flowers printed on it. Man, he’s got better fashion sense than all of us. For real though, just look at him.
Now, let’s talk about his hair. He has white-blonde bleached hair with purple eyes. His hair are shaved from the sides which makes him look even more fierce. Therefore, if you’re into bad boys, you’re gonna love this character.
Personality
The first impression of Izana on Takemichi was of a ruthless and brave leader of Tenjiku Gang. Takemichi literally got super scared but he had to step up to take revenge. And he’s also the older half-brother of Mikey. Isn’t that shocking?
Both of these brothers are quite similar to each other. They carry this dark aura around them. In fact, Mikey and Izana are quite protective and caring about their sister, Emma Sano. Mikey was inspired by his brother Shinchiro Sano who wanted Mikey to inherit the gang. However, this caused the flame of jealousy in the heart of Izana. That’s when Izana left Emma at Mikey’s home and started living his own life. Quite selfish, eh?
As the 8th leader of the gang, Black Dragons. He was very fearless and brave. He wasn’t afraid of anything and protected his gang. There’s not only just darkness all around, there’s a light of hope that enables this guy to protect his friends. Although he made Kakucho his servant in the orphanage yet while he was in an intense battle, he saved kakucho. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 176)

Leadership Abilities
Izana Kurokawa has a huge influence on his gang members. His gang only listens to him since he has some good leadership skills. After all, he was the 8th leader of Black Dragons. However, currently, he’s the president of Tenjiku gang.
Izana controls his gang using fear and respect. He can easily fight against the strongest gangs.
Extraordinary Abilities
Unlike his brother, Shinichiro Sano, he has extraordinary or superhuman abilities. Izana Kurokawa became the top dog of Tenjiku due to his extraordinary abilities. Yasuhiro Muto, who is the former 5th division captain of Toman, recognized these abilities as well.
Izana has this unique ability of predicting his enemies’ moves. He can literally tell when his enemy is going to strike an attack or something. So, these abilities make him one of the strongest characters in the series. Prediction of attacks was proved with his fight against Mikey. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 171)

Past/Background
(SPOILER ALERT) Before his death, Izana revealed that he isn’t blood-related to the Sano Family. And says that he and Emma were the children of a mistress. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 177) Despite such fact, he was accepted by the Sano Family.
Izana Kurokawa in his past was really close with Shinichiro Sano. He always looked up to him, shared his pain, and everything. However, after some incidents, he had to leave Emma with the Sano family to start his own journey.
Shinichiro always visited Izana later on and made sure he was protected. Both of them took rides together. During one of their rides together, Izana said that he would, later on, inherit the Black Dragons.
Shinichiro agreed with it and said that he’d have to compete against Mikey. Later, when Izana realizes that Shinichiro wasn’t his real brother, his life turns upside down. Yes, Izana wasn’t blood-related to the Sano Family. Actually, he was the child of a Filipino mistress.
While he gets to know all that, Shinichiro also confesses that he knew it before. Izana’s tears get mixed up with the rain. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 177) Since everything was so messed up for this boy, he committed some crimes and was even sent to prison. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 156)

Tenjiku
Tenjiku was the gang that was created by Izana Kurokawa. This gang is composed of S62 Generation and 400 other members. But sadly, this gang died with him.
Black Dragons
Although not much is known about Izana’s connection with Black Dragons, all we know is that he’s the former 8th leader of this gang. Since he really wanted to inherit this gang, he proved it! He was replaced by Shion Madarame as the 9th Generation Leader.

Kakucho Hitto
Kakucho is said to be the strongest member in Tenjiku. Izana said that himself. Kakucho is one of the Four Heavenly Kings. After his parents’ death, he would always stand by Izana and support him through thick and thin. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 175)
While Izana and Kakucho were in a battle against Toman, Izana jumped in front of Kakucho to save him from getting hit by a bullet. Kakucho and Izana dreamt together and have always spent a nice time together. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 175)
Kanji Mochizuki
Kanji Mochizuki belongs to the S62 Generation. In the fight between Toman and Tenjiku, he would go against Chifuyu. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 160)
Rindo Haitani
Rindo Haitani is also one of the members of the Tenjiku Gang. He has supported this gang in various ways. He’s quite powerful and can easily knock out his opponent. He also participated in the battle against Toman.
Ran Haitani
Ran Haitani is the brother of Rindo Haitani. Together, these brothers are unstoppable.
Shion Madarame
Shion Madarame is another member of the Tenjiku Gang. He’s Izana’s successor too. He’s the one who leads the Black Dragons after the death of Izana.
Family
Shinichiro Sano
Shinichiro Sano and Izana Kurokawa had really good chemistry together. As I’ve mentioned before, they used to go on bike rides together. Izana always considered Shinichiro Sano as his elder brother. But after finding out the truth, he was truly disappointed and decided to ruin his life.
Manjiro Sano
Manjiro Sano, also known as Mikey, is the leader of the Tokyo Manji Gang. He’s the half-brother of Izana Kurokawa. Later on, his adoptive brother becomes his enemy. Doesn’t that sound thrilling? If you haven’t read this manga, you really need to! Because this manga has so many plot twists.
Emma Sano
Emma Sano is also known to be Izana’s half-sister. He always took care of Emma but one day, he left her with the Sano family. That was a really selfish move, but it is what it is. He wanted to get powerful so he decided to change his life somehow. Therefore, that’s how he made his gang, Tenjiku.
Plot
When Emma was a small child, almost 3 years old, Izana left her and continued his journey on becoming a powerful gang leader. That’s how Emma formed a close bond with Mikey. Both of them spent a really good time together. Emma also ends up developing feelings for Draken. Izana slowly formed a cruel personality and ended up with his own gang, the Tenjiku gang. After Shinichiro died, Izana and Mikey both fell into the state of depression. It’s all KAZUTORA’s FAULT!
(SPOILER ALERT) His first appearance is when Emma Sano was murdered through his own orders. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 129) There was always gonna be a war between Toman and Tenjiku, what caused it was when Tenjiku ambushed Toman. They killed Emma so that Mikey and Draken couldn’t have the will to fight. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 163)
Izana’s fight with Mikey was quite long and when Tetta Kisaki steps up during the fight, he was going to shoot Kakucho Hitto, but since he was the only friend of Izana, Izana decided to take the hit for him and saved him. That’s how Izana died. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 171 – Chapter 174) There, Izana laid in a pool of blood. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 177)
