Manjiro Sano also known as “Mikey” or the “Invincible Mikey” is the founder of the Tokyo Manji Gang. He’s the one to form Toman or the Tokyo Manji Gang. His nickname is Mikey and he’s definitely one of the strongest characters in the series. After Takemichi, this guy is considered the main protagonist. He went through so many tough situations and handled them all alone. So, If you want to know more about this guy, keep scrolling. I’ll enlighten you guys with his story. Let’s go! 

 

Appearance

 

Manjiro Sano is an overpowered teenager with an average height. He has pitch-black eyes. If we talk about his appearance, he has altered his outfit and looks many times in the anime or manga of Tokyo Revengers. His first look consists of long blonde hair. He wears Toman uniform’s jacket and keeps it open which reveals his plain white shirt and black trousers with white boots. 

However, when talking about the original timeline, adult Mikey’s hair was slicked to the back and he still rode his bike CB250T. He becomes a baddie and gets a dragon tattoo on his neck too. That tattoo is quite similar to Draken’s and Mitsuya’s tattoo. He also rode the CB205T owned by his brother, Shinichiro Sano. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 116)

In his second appearance, he has short white hair with an undercut hairstyle along with a Bonten tattoo. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 202). (That’s when all the trouble began)

Mikey becomes really skinny in the future as he joins Bonten. Things take twists and turn upside down. Future Mikey is surely unhealthy and he gets heavy bags under his eyes. 

 

Personality 

Let’s talk about Mikey’s personality. Tbh, if you have only watched the Tokyo Revenger series, you might not be able to absorb all of the information that will be given to you shortly. So, let’s just say there’s going to be a lot of (SPOILER ALERTS) in the blog.

Mikey is usually a very carefree individual who isn’t afraid to take any step. He loves pulling pranks on his friends. Yes, on his friends. You won’t see this guy laughing with others. He cares a lot about his dear ones. He protects his gang and his friends especially. As the leader of Toman, he honors himself and has good self-esteem. 

Even though we see this guy laughing one second, the other second he is completely a changed person. He often pressurized himself that he’s the one who holds the Tokyo Manji Gang together. However, he has some real supportive nakamas too. For instance, Takemichi went back in time to save Draken. Draken and Mikey are really close to each other and that’s why Mikey cannot afford to lose him. 

One night, Mikey loses his older brother, Shinichiro Sano (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 44-45). From that moment, Mikey changed. He became dark, literally. He becomes more serious and starts losing himself too. That sounds sad, right? These unending events of losing precious people in his life affect his mental health really badly. It gives him trauma. (SPOILER ALERT) after losing Emma Sano, he was just completely hopeless. You might be questioning yourself: who’s Emma Sano? Well, Emma is the half-sister of Mikey. She’s also the sister of Izana Kurokawa. Izana left her with the Sano family to change his life. 

Anyways, Mikey went through real tough times too. He made many foolish decisions. That’s when he decided to create Bonten and endangered Takemichi’s life while threatening to kill him with a gun. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 189). Bonten is a criminal organization that kills people. So, he turned himself into a criminal. He might still be a very charismatic leader for you guys. 

 

Strength and Skills 

 

Extraordinary Fighting Abilities 

Mikey proved that his nickname, invincible Mikey, isn’t just for show during his fights. He literally has the most unique fighting abilities. Even though he has a small height, his internal power is AMAZING! I mean, his kicks can literally knock out the strongest opponents. 

In his fight against Moebius, he was able to knock out Osanai very easily. Even when he was in elementary school, he was able to beat the leader of a gang of middle-schoolers (Tokyo Revengers: Episode 6). Isn’t that fascinating? It means the training he got from his grandpa was worth it. 

He usually uses his roundhouse kick that smashes his opponents real bad. So, if you see Mikey in the streets, you better get back in the sheets. 

 

Exceptional Persistence 

This guy is seen taking hits just fine from his opponents. Even though he fights with all that he’s got, he can easily tolerate the attacks of his opponents which proves how persistent this guy actually is. Even if he’s bloodied and bruised, he can take hits just fine. 

He gets hit and counterattack after taking punches that would’ve knocked out a sane person. But Mikey’s different from everyone else, right? (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 58) 

 

Leadership 

Mikey is definitely one of the best leaders in the series. Even though certain incidents changed his life completely, that doesn’t change the fact that he’s the leader of Toman. His gang members really respect him a lot. Even though he’s short, that doesn’t change the fact that he has excellent leadership qualities which makes everyone listen to him very well.

Past/History of Mikey 

At a very young age, this guy started learning martial arts from his grandfather. He was basically left to live with his grandfather. He trained until he was exhausted and tired. Therefore, he always worked hard and became a great martial artist too. Moreover, he was recognized by other professional martial artists. 

Let’s now talk about the past of Mikey & Draken. How could have they met? Draken was being bullied by the Sameyama middle schoolers. Draken couldn’t really stand his enemies and Mikey, while eating a lollipop, defeated those bullies and ended up befriending Draken. (Tokyo Revengers: Episode 6) 

Draken was confused when he first saw Mikey. He thought how could a small boy like Mikey defeat those big guys? Little did he know, this little chipmunk went through martial arts training. That’s how both of them met. Mikey was wondering why Draken hung out with trashy guys like them and that’s how they got to know one another. 

 

Affiliations 

 

Tokyo Manji Gang

The Tokyo Manji Gang is literally Mikey’s gang that was founded by him and some others. Later on, he found many other members that had the potential to stay loyal to the gang. Like Pehyan, Chifuyu Matsuno, Takemichi, Mucho. The Tokyo Manji Gang is one of the best gangs, indeed. 

 

Bonten 

After certain circumstances and unavoidable incidents, Mikey changed. He became really dark and changed as a person. We can visibly see the numbness and cruelty in his eyes. So, later in future, he becomes affiliated with Bonten which is unarguably a criminal organization. 

 

Relationships 

 

Izana Kurokawa 

Izana Kurokawa used to be the 8th former leader of Black Dragons. He was truly inspired by his older brother, Shinichiro Sano. He was also the former president of Tenjiku. In fact, Izana is the half-brother of Mikey. Izana, one day, left Emma Sano at the Sano household. 

 

Emma Sano 

Emma Sano is the half-sister of Mikey. She was left alone with the Sano Family by Izana Kurokawa when she was just 3 years old. However, it was for the better good. Mikey took really good care of her and introduced her to Draken. We all know she was head-over-heels for Draken. However, due to her insolent brother, Izana, she ended up dying. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 148) 

 

Draken (Ken Ryuguji) 

Draken is more like a brother to Mikey. He has been always there for Mikey. Even during his toughest times, Draken has been there. Draken aka Ken Ryuguji, plays a very important role in Mikey’s life. He’s the heart behind Mikey’s actions. So, this boy needs to be protected. 

 

Takemichi Hanagaki

Takemichi is the main protagonist of the series. All this boy wanted was to bring back his girlfriend safely. However, things messed up! A LOT! His girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, was killed by the Tokyo Manji Gang somehow. Therefore, Takemichi decides to join the gang and is really adored by Manjiro. He really took a serious liking to Takemichi and added him into the gang despite knowing that he can’t fight. LMAO. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 2) 

 

Shinichiro Sano 

Shinichiro Sano is the older brother of Mikey. He always looked up to his brother and loved him very dearly too. Shinichiro was truly a capable brother and Mikey dreamt of gifting his brother his dream bike on his birthday. It was a very risky wish. Keisuke Baji and Kazutora went to the shop, stole a bike, and ended up killing his brother. WHEW! Too much to absorb, right? (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 45) 

 

Keisuke Baji 

Keisuke Baji is also one of the founding members of the Tokyo Manji Gang. He was the captain of the 1st Division. He was also one of Mikey’s oldest friends. He and Mikey together, trained at Mikey’s grandfather’s dojo. So, that’s how they got along very well. Sadly, this friendship didn’t end well since Baji died in a battle between the Tokyo Manji Gang and Valhalla. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 62) 

 

Plot 

 

The first appearance of Manjiro Sano was when he was looking at Takemichi in a fighting ring that was run by Masataka Kiyomizu. He saved Takemichi while he was bruised. However, at that moment, he took a liking to Takemichi. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 2)

He gave Takemichi the nickname, “Takemitchy”, and declared that they’d be friends from that moment. Then, we see Mikey when he was slapped by Hinata Tachibana. While Mikey, Takemichi, and Draken were riding the bike, they stopped by a river. Mikey said that he would create a new era of delinquents who would never be considered lame. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 3) 

Mikey also brought up Takemichi along with him during some intense and risky battles against gangs like Moebius, Valhalla, and the Black Dragons. So, that’s how Takemichi entered the world of delinquents and went through some real serious character development. Let’s now talk about some arcs that occured in the anime! 

 

Moebius Arc 

 

This is one of the first arcs of the Tokyo Revengers anime. In fact, that’s the first ever battle in which Takemichi was involved. Osanai was a real bad guy who abused Pah-Chin’s girlfriend which triggered him. That’s how they got into an intense fight. Many members of the Tokyo Manji Gang endangered their lives to protect Pah-Chin’s girl and to stay loyal with the gang. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 11)

After the battle, Mikey and Draken go to the hospital to apologize to the parents of the girl who was abused brutally by Osanai. However, the battle didn’t stop just yet. Of course, Moebius will come again. Takemichi knew that Moebius was going to endanger the life of his buddy, Draken, on the 3rd of August. He decides to change the future and protect Draken. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 16)

So, just like that, at a festival, Moebius comes after Draken. He was hit by a rod on his head. Despite that fact, he beat up many people in the gang. However, in the end, he was stabbed by Kiyomasa. Takemichi arrived at the scene and called an ambulance. Mikey on the other hand, comes riding his bike fastly in the rain and decides to knock Shuji Hanma out who was introducing himself. Shuji Hanma is also quite tough since he took on the roundhouse kick of Mikey. Like, WHEW! I thought many strong fighters could get knocked out by that.  

Draken gets healed up and everyone is happy while Mikey is seen at a corner crying all alone since he was so worried about Draken. Mikey was crying with relief. (Tokyo Revengers: Episode 11)

 

Valhalla Arc 

 

This was one of the most intense arcs in the anime. I swear to god, one of the most important people died in this arc. (SPOILER ALERT) Keisuke Baji passed away in this arc. Valhalla was led by Shuji Hanma. Valhalla and the Tokyo Manji Gang were bound to fight. 

Kazutora kept blaming Mikey for many things. He just couldn’t be held accountable for his actions. That’s about it. So, the battle begins! Mikey comes to the scene and beats up people. Many other members of the Tokyo Manji Gang come up and fight against Valhalla. 

However, the battle gets intense when Keisuke Baji’s time comes. He said that Kazutora would not be the one to kill him and ended up stabbing himself. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 61) 

 

Black Dragon Arc 

 

In 2018, in an alternate timeline, Takemichi goes to Manila, Philippines. Just to find Mikey, he visited Manila since Mikey told him something about his brother visiting once before. That’s where Takemichi finds him sitting alone in a building. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 117) It’s true that Mikey kept losing his favorite people and that got him depressed. That’s exactly when he becomes dark and wishes to escape reality. Don’t cry, please. 

 

Tenjiku Arc 

 

When Takemichi returns to the present, Tenjiku had absorbed the Tokyo Manji Gang after the Kanto incident which demoralized Mikey to kill all of his friends. Takemichi and Naoto, while investigating, find out that Tetta Kisaki has some sort of connection with Tenjiku and Shinichiro was the leader of the 1st Generation of the Black Dragons. They get ambushed by Tenjiku and get wounded badly. Right before Takemichi travels back in time, they both die but Takemichi successfully goes back to the past. Hinata hears Takemichi getting worried and the fact that Takemichi can time travel. 

Takemichi also learns that Izana is the half-brother of Mikey and that Izana is quite jealous of Mikey. Izana also ends up killing his half-sister, Emma Sano. It leaves Mikey and Draken distraught. Takemichi comes up with the plan of fighting against Tenjiku. At the end of the fight, Mikey learns that Takemichi has been traveling back in time to save all of them. However, Tetta Kisaki intended to shoot Kakucho Hitto yet Izana comes in his way and saves him by taking the bullet for him. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 186) 

While running away from all the mess, Takemichi and Tetta Kisaki talk about what’s the deal with Tetta Kisaki. Kisaki confesses that he always had feelings for Hinata. And in the midst of this, he gets hit by a truck. After the Kanto incident, Mikey decides to dissolve Toman and allows its members to move on. 

Bonten Arc 

 

Now, Takemichi comes clean with his intentions of saving everyone through time-traveling. That’s when Mikey summons the whole Tokyo Manji Gang and announces its disbandment. All of the gang members agree with his decision. Later on, Toman leaders buried a time capsule and promised to meet at the same spot after 12 years. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 198) 

While Hinata is blaming herself for the death of Emma Sano, Takemichi comforts her and asks her to marry him in 12 years which she agrees to. Takemichi returns to the present and meets his friends at the wedding of Pah Chin. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 193) 

Takemichi, after learning about the careers of his friends, asks about Mikey. Surprisingly, not many of them know about Mikey’s whereabouts. And those who know are very shocked as Mikey has turned rather evil. This raises curiosity in Takemichi’s mind. He meets Naoto and tells him about Bonten and Mikey. Bonten is a criminal organization that deals with murders and every type of crime. He asks Naoto to shake hands with him so that he can travel back in time. Naoto is reluctant to do it since his sister is safe. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 196)

Later on, Takemichi meets Chifuyu and tells him about him being unable to travel back in time. Chifuyu says that the path that Mikey chose was for himself. Kazutora appears and he believes that Mikey is the same old Mikey. Months later, Takemichi receives a haircut from Akkun who had always dreamt of becoming a hairdresser. Takemichi has his wedding in a few days, he sees Hinata trying on different wedding dresses. However, he’s still concerned about Mikey since they opened the capsule and Mikey wasn’t there even though he promised. 

So, Takemichi decides to search for info about Mikey. Kazutora curses him and says that he’s going to a suicidal mission. But that didn’t stop Takemichi. Takemichi finds himself in an abandoned alley and one of Bonten’s bases where Sanzu (a member of Bonten) puts a gun to his head and Mikey appears in front of him too. At the same time, Hinata gets concerned about Takemichi and her necklace breaks which she considers as a bad omen. Takemichi and Mikey’s conversations continue as Mikey stops Sanzu from threatening Takemichi. Takemichi is thankful to Mikey for securing everyone’s future and tells Mikey that it’s his turn to save him. But Mikey shoots Takemichi. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 203)

Mikey was consumed by darkness and suddenly had the urge to jump out of the window, Takemichi held him by his arm while he’s badly wounded himself. Mikey tells him to leave him alone since Takemichi can’t time leap anymore. However, Takemichi had strong determination. Seeing that brought tears in Mikey’s eyes and he broke down. Mikey asks Takemichi to save him from this darkness. (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 204)
