For this blog, we’re going to take a dive into something new, one you might’ve not heard of before. Donghua is simply Chinese Animation and is no doubt just as enjoyable as the Japanese Anime that we’re used to.

Just like Korean Manhwa and Japanese Anime, Donghua doesn’t fall far in terms of storytelling, and they have their own collection of shows to offer. Here we are specifically going for 11 Donghua with OP MCs! And boy, they don’t miss this one.

Get ready because we’re about to get this list started!

 

Donghua With The Strongest Main Character

 

11. Supreme God Emperor

What better way to start this list of Overpowered MCs than with a Donghua that already laid it all out on the title. You can’t expect any less from the Supreme God Emperor in terms of power. But in terms of plot, this is your typical cultivation Isekai where an expert warrior lives inside the body of a weak kid. We know where this one’s going, don’t we?

We have an MC who garners skill in all kinds of martial arts, as well as leveling up every episode via random energy boosts. On top of that, he’s a master alchemist, blacksmith, cultivation expert, and every other skill he had in his previous life. With that, he knows exactly what he needs to do to level up.

This Donghua is perfect for fans of cultivation stories, where the MC starts off weak but progressively gets stronger throughout the series. You should give this a watch if you enjoy these stories, it may not be the best, but it can still be enjoyable.

 

10. Martial Universe

Martial Universe revolves around a child whose dad got crippled by another cultivator in a much stronger realm for being too arrogant, so arrogant that he’s blaming his 3-year-old son for not being like him. Three-year-olds can be nasty, but I doubt they can be that full of themselves, eh?

 Martial Universe has a decent story with a sense of progression and character development. With splendid world building that complements the tournaments and cultivation grinding in the story.

 In terms of design, the show doesn’t peak compared to others. And it isn’t something non-CGI fans would enjoy, but if you do, I’m sure you’ll have fun watching Martial Universe with its action and interesting set of characters.

 

9. Soul Land

Soul Land follows the story of Tang San, one of the most prestigious disciples of the Tang Sect martial arts clan. He had a bright future ahead but chose to obtain the clan’s forbidden lore, an action punishable by death. With this new knowledge, he seeks for death, only to find a new adventure at hand.

 Tang soon reincarnated into this realm as a blacksmith’s son. By the age of 6, he acquired the Blue Silver Grass, a rather weak spirit but with Tang’s knowledge from his former life and talent in spiritual arts, his future as a Spirit Master is at grasp.

 All in all, this Donghua is pretty fun to watch as a reincarnation story. Watching our MC go through all sorts of growth with previous knowledge at hand is really making me envious. How convenient is it to have this kind of buff wouldn’t it?

 

8. Spirit Blade Sovereign

And another cultivation story to add to the list. Like the rest, we have here a weak protagonist who must work his way up to being overpowered. Or should I say, work his way to power up again, as he is a skilled martial artist reincarnated into a young man’s body. I swear these Donghua MCs have a field day of making smurf accounts.

The best thing about this cultivation Donghua is that we have a thoughtful and strategic MC, with a touch of being emotionally unstable and a hothead. That means we have layers to our protagonist that won’t have us snoozing throughout the show.

So, if Isekai harems are your thing where the protagonist is weak but eventually gets stronger via a stroke of luck and is constantly surrounded by romantic interests but does not have an interest in any of them, you can give this series a shot!

 

7. The God of War Dominates

Qin Chen, a genius military officer was led to die in a canyon in the forbidden land by the people. His death, however, triggers the awakening of ancient powers long hidden in the depths of the earth. Unearthed 300 years later when a boy was born to inherit Qin Chen’s will.

This series has a different take on the typical reincarnation trope, the protagonist isn’t the same person at all but carries the same will the previous one had. This gives our story a little touch of excitement knowing that our MC doesn’t get spoon-fed with random buffs.

The story has so much potential to be enjoyable but be prepared for an argument-loaded fight scenes as our MC and his adversaries are quite the mouthful. But overall, the animation and sound FX are splendid which makes the show even more enjoyable.

 

6. Snow Eagle Lord

Snow Eagle Lord follows the story of Xue Ying, a young lord of a certain territory who took over his parent’s place after their early passing. With the powers of his bloodline and innate combat talent, our MC barely has any problem rising to power.

 Like the show’s title, our MC had a rather cool persona. He is cool-headed and calm, it would take a great deal of smoke to heat this boy up, but it’s not something one should try, or they’d simply be signing their own death warrant.

 

5. Fairies Album

Fairies Album is a wonderful story that follows the spirit doctor, Tao Yao. A doctor who takes pride in her skills and knowledge. She’s sharp in both wits and tongue, and throughout her journey with her companions: a monk, and a fox spirit. They roam the land cleansing the supernatural impurities.

This may be the only Donghua in the list that isn’t packed with action compared to others but is certainly one of the best. Fairies Album has a very comforting atmosphere similar to Violet Evergarden, and the story in itself is addicting without too much fights.

You may wonder, how did this wound up in a list of OP Main Characters? Well, her journey is surrounded with dangerous demons, and our lovely Tao Yao’s destructive powers are just as impressive as her healing abilities.

 

4. My Holy Weapon

Ever seen the Holy Grail War? Well, our next show is going to give you one holy Déjà vu. My Holy Weapon follows the story of Chang Wei, a college student interested in Chinese occult who accidentally invoked the artifact, Xiao Bai. This granted him a spiritual guardian to fight in his stead.

There’s a slight issue with the fights being too quick in this show: we don’t get the casual tug of war between the MC and antagonist. However, the fights are still good and relevant to the story’s progression,

My Holy Weapon may be very comparable to Fate Series, it is a great show by itself and still has a lot to offer despite its lack of originality. Having watched the Fate Series beforehand would not ruin your experience with this Donghua but will have you hooked even more with its unique delivery of the same concept.

 

3. Full-Time Magister

Full-Time Magister is basically your typical magic school series with a touch of Isekai. Our MC, Mo Fan, hails  from a common family but holds so much potential for growth. Once he awakened two magical affinities, he is already a force to be reckoned with.

Expect a lot of magic in this series, I know you had it coming by the title. Having the affinities of both lightning and flame, his powers are no pushover especially in a world where magic is everything.

All things considered, Full-time Magister may have a typical setting and plot but it is still enjoyable thanks to our MC. It’s really satisfying to witness this underdog work his way up, despite his rather lucky boost in power, Mo Fan still needs lots of hard work to prove that he’s worthy of such abilities.

 

2. Nezha: The Devil’s Birth

The Lord of Heaven sent Spirit Pearl to Earth to reincarnate as Ne Zha, the third son of Li Jing, is supposed to be a reincarnation of the Spirit Pearl sent to earth, while his Demon Orb counterpart is set to be destroyed. However, Ne Zha is instead reincarnated with the Demon Orb and is bound to become a demon hunter.

Nezha: The Devil’s Birth is a very entertaining Donghua that can make you emotional at times. It also boasts wonderful animation and superb fight scenes, one you would expect from a show with a very powerful MC!

Overall, the show will have you hooked from start to finish, with its amazing character designs, art, sound effects and all. Being one of the few stories in this list to have a significantly unique plot and storyline, it would be a waste to not try this one out!

 

1. The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation

The story follows an unfortunate series of tragedy, in the life of cultivator Wei Wuxian. From his rise to power, fall to corruption, and finally to his inevitable end in the hands of united cultivation clans, and his closest ally. Wei Wuxian, prior to his downfall, was an unstoppable force in combat.

Thirteen years passed and Wei Wuxian is reincarnated into the body of a lunatic and reunited with a former friend, where the story goes on with the journey of these two men who seek to unravel the mysteries of the spiritual world.

This Donghua will surely get you hooked whether you enjoy cultivation stories or not, the story gets sadder and sadder as the story ends and there’s very deep meaning into the story that will surely require your utmost attention to details.

The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation is easy to follow especially for those who haven’t read the novel, so give it a try! I guarantee there is more to cultivation in this story that sets it apart from everything else on the list.

 

CONCLUSION
