The Year is 2022. Yes, you got it. Kirigaya “Kirito” Kazuto faces a different kind of bad luck as he is a solo player trapped in an online game called SAO with only one way to live: Clearing the game. However, will he be able to do so as the stakes get higher with each step? Not to mention, Kirito marries Asuna, “The Lighting Flash”(Episode 11), and adopts a kid named Yui along the way.
Though not exactly a show that possesses the same sense of urgency as the World’s End Harem’s plot at an immediate stance, it is a good way to start with this genre and be amazed by the beautiful world of SAO.

Coming in from the same author as Full Dive, we can all chant: “I’m perfectly prepared” as Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious takes this one. Called on by the Ristarte a novice goddess to save Gaeabrande, an S-class world, we follow Seiya Ryuuguuin’s cautious way through this new world. When there’s a Hero, of course, the ladies follow.
It may seem quite far from World’s End Harem at first but, as the story progresses, we see how Seiya was once a carefree man who lost not only Ristarte but also their unborn child in a previous life (Episode 11). It shows how someone responds to loss and how they strive to make a change for the better.

If a Goddess summoned you to kill the Hero to prevent the destruction of the world, will you do it? This old man who is the world’s greatest assassin surely will just so he could live his life to the fullest as a human.
Though far from innocent, his loyalty and professionalism remind us greatly of World’s End Harem‘s Reito for his dedication to finding the cure for the rare disease of the world he woke up to. Though it is for a different reason, it shows how both protagonists pursue to go forward and achieve their respective goals and the ladies.

Perhaps, one of the “Classics” as they say. Kenshi “Swordsman” Masaki was brought to Geminar, and to go back home he needs to help assassinate the newly crowned Empress using a giant robot.
Diverging a bit from how protagonists are usually treated in anime of the same genre, he wasn’t treated very well by those who had discovered him so young Kenshi did not really start off well, and only when he found true friends did he start to open up. It’s similar to World’s End Harem in the way that it explores not only the protagonist’s way of thinking but also how they are with those around them.

Let’s admit it. We’ve heard heroes of the sword, bow, and spear wielders but only a few on shields. If you’re looking for dark themes similar to World’s End Harem then this anime is for you.
Following Naofumi Iwatani’s journey after being summoned as one of the Four Legendary Heroes. Betrayal has its downsides and before he nearly lost everything, he found meaning in the little he has left. He displays an almost villainous attitude but not exactly enough to push Raphtalia, a girl he purchased from slave traders, and instead struggles to heal what little faith he has for their genuine affection. Soon enough, he asked Raphtalia to drop formalities (Light Novel Volume 22), making her embarrassed.

With its pursuit of peace and willingness to set differences aside, GATE is a story similar to World’s End Harem in more ways than one. Otaku soldier, Yoji Itami finds himself facing fantasy-like creatures which poured out of a mysterious gate in Ginza, Tokyo.
Politics here takes the cake as we see our protagonist maneuver military tactics just to get even the slightest edge for peace, all the while maintaining what being human is all about. This is also one of those anime where the protagonist shows a rather platonic kind of love towards the girls that shows him interest. Similarly, Reito from World’s End Harem had a likely approach and only did react visually when he was in front of Elisa.

Even God makes mistakes and as far as this anime goes, Touya Mochizuki is reincarnated to another world with his magically enhanced smartphone as an apology from God.
Compared to World’s End Harem, this anime is generally light-hearted but it lay similar to how the protagonist is given authority and favor throughout the series. If Reito was treated as one of the three most precious individuals alive, Touya literally became a lower-rank God (Web Novel Arc 24 Chapter 214) and married his nine fiancees (Web Novel Arc 31 Chapter 448).

A salaryman in a world of magic and demons? After dying in a car accident–Truck-kun, you’re at it again–Shin Wolford reincarnates into an unknown world and becomes the grandson of a national hero, Merlin.
It shows how the protagonist, despite being overpowered, has extensive knowledge of science and becomes an inventor. It displays the depth that the three boys from World’s End Harem also possess, making them not only likable but also relatable to the audience. Seeing Shin actually getting together with Sicily Von Claude (Volume 12) is simply a cherry on top and something we can just hope for every isekai-ed protagonist.

Traffic accidents, am I right? A hikikomori, Kazuma Sato, dies but a goddess named Aqua intervenes and offers him a second chance in a magical land. Initially, it does sound far from World’s End Harem but it is not in sixth place for nothing.
Along with the goddess, Aqua, a sorceress called Megumin, and a knight named Darkness, our protagonist embarks on several adventures to kill the Demon King. Another seemingly light-hearted anime but perhaps what makes it so similar is how each character has their own plot twist to contribute to the story making it not only much anticipated but also more fleshed out compared to most.

This one did not hesitate at all. Forget the romance, it’s the year 2138! Momonga decided to risk it all and not log out of Yggdrasil, a virtual game meant to be shut down and to his surprise, finds himself trapped inside. However, instead of trying to get out, our protagonist decided to rule the new world before him.
As World’s End Harem brings out the dystopia of the situation, this anime expands on how multifaceted a person could be given that they are given a reason and in this case, both Momonga and Reito are the same: they strive hard to protect those they care about.

Pro-gamers, what would you do if you were given a chance to live in another world as a prize for a game of Chess? No Game No Life is a surreal comedy following Sora and Shiro who are behind the legendary username, “Blank”.
Plunged into this world where conflict is resolved by high-stakes games, we are reminded of how our protagonists from World’s End Harem handled their first moments after waking up. Despite the ending being visibly different from one another, both anime highlight unity and moving forward.

Love, fate, and sins. Re:Zero earned itself its fair share of angst and dark themes of the human psyche and its ability to make the right choices. It follows the struggles of Subaru Natsuki in this new world and his ability to be revived hours before he is killed again. Ironically, this activates his ability to reset reality.
Much like World’s End Harem, it dives deep into how a person’s choice is affected by those around them, their experiences, and their own motives; How far someone would go, and what kind of sacrifices they are willing to make to achieve their goal and ambition. It sounds cliche at first but once you are the one that is making the choices– Will you raise the stakes higher?

And finally, here we are at number one. What can I say? Mushoku Tensei just does everything right, controversial, and smooth. Be it storytelling or giving character depth, World’s End Harem has no better similar approach than this one.
Even if the premise of the two seems to be on each opposing side, the world-building, character development, and enticing designs capture the essence of storytelling. Following the life of Rudeus in this new world, it’s a wonder to watch him make a difference in how he once lived. It is undoubtedly something each male had in the World End’s Harem as they all move towards their desired path in a way to change themselves for the better. It opens our minds to possibilities and outcomes that might not have crossed our minds.
Conclusion:
There is no denying that World’s End Harem is one of those unreasonably misunderstood anime judged for its unique way of storytelling or how graphic it can get yet no one can deny that they cannot imagine it any other way. Honestly, the concept is quite “otherworldly” –get it? Because “isekai” and another world–Alright, I’ll show myself out but hey, give the anime a try!
