Demon Slayer is one of the most popular anime shows out there that has reached mainstream media. Despite its recency, it has racked up quite a lot of popularity due to how it appeals to the general audience and can be easily enjoyed by people.

Aside from that, the characters are so enticing that each of them has a unique and memorable personality that really fits the dynamics of the whole show. Most of them have an outstanding charisma that allures us even if they lack some screen time and dialogues in the entire series.

Even though some may say it’s cringe, one way to show our love to these fictional characters is to remember the entirety of their existence in their respective shows. Knowing the birthdays of our favorite characters is also a great example of showing our love to them.

Because we acknowledge our emotional connections and we use their birthdays to remember and commemorate the characters about how they significantly impacted us, both as a casual watcher and a hardcore fan. And Demon Slayer is no different in this case.

Kimetsu No Yaiba Characters’ Birthdays

January

Genya Shinazugawa

• Birthday: January 7th

Genya is the younger brother of the Wind Pillar and a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. Though the demon slayers mostly use swords for fighting associated with their breathing skills, Genya is different because he uses guns instead, because he doesn’t have a breathing technique and has excellent marksmanship that is always crucial for long-range battles. His battle prowess is entirely situational.

Genya is the type of guy who you would not want to make angry but he already is angry. His attitude looks like he’s not easy to approach, let alone to talk to. He is a foul-mouthed individual that could either annoy you or himself when you attempt to have a conversation with him. But behind his despicable characteristic is actually part of his plot with his brother. Who knows, maybe he’ll become one of your favourites after his character development.

Giyuu Tomioka

• Birthday: February 8th

Giyuu is the current Water Pillar specializing in water breathing techniques. He first appeared after the tragedy struck upon Tanjiro in the beginning of the story and became his first guide and mentor for a short time. As a Pillar, he is one of the most ruthless members because of how he unhesitantly attempts to kill Nezuko despite seeing that she still has humanity left within her.

His stoic and silent personality is what makes him instantly a fan favorite for the majority. Aside from his amazing fighting techniques, his relatable way of speaking to others and his dynamics to the other characters of how they tease each other is what stands out for the fans. He is the type of guy who always thinks about what others are thinking about him. When Giyuu appears in the show, you know there’s something good to expect from him, both in battles and comedic antics

Shinobu Kochou

• Birthday: February 24th

Shinobu is the Insect Pillar of the Demon Hunter Corps. She specializes in speed and agility to compensate for her lack of strength in swordsmanship. She kills demons by piercing them with a poisoned blade instead of slashing them which she cannot do. She owns multiple poisonous fluids that are used for killing demons associated with her Insect Breathing Style.

Aside from her gorgeous character design, her personality, mannerism, and way of speaking shout “waifu” material for an instant. Her cheerfulness and charisma relax the soul of the viewers because of how chilling her way of speaking is. Behind her cheerfulness, lies an immense hatred of the demons. Before she had her cheerful personality, she was silent and was always grim looking, but after her sister, Kanae’s death, she inherited her smile that most of us fans enjoy today. A smile that must be always protected.

Kochou Kanae

• Birthday: March 21st (Fictional)

She is the late Flower Pillar and the sister of  Shinobu, the Insect Pillar. Her abilities are not showcased so it is unknown what she can do, but what we know of her is the fact that she was a Pillar, so it is safe to assume that she’s very strong. She only appears in flashbacks of Kanao and Shinobu. 

Kanae is an ideal kind of sister that most of the younger siblings might be jealous of. Her presence alone radiates happy-go-lucky energy that affects your mood positively. Since she has a lot of resemblance with her younger sister, Shinobu, you might wonder why her little sister became what she is now.

Inosuke Hashibara

• Birthday: April 22nd

Inosuke is one of the main characters in the series. He is one of the trio with Tanjiro and Zenitsu. In the entire show, he is often seen wearing a boar mask, making it his character trademark. The reason for him wearing it is that he was raised by boars in his early life in the mountains.

As a member of Demon Slaying Corps, he specializes in Beast Breathing, wielding two swords that complement his wild, mobile, and flexible fighting style.  Aside from that, he has a heightened sense which was nurtured during his early days in the mountains.

He is one of the noisiest characters who always screams in every dialogue he is in. Some may find it annoying but it was just a part of his character. Behind his boar mask lies a beauty that might mistake him for a woman, leaving the people who have seen his face in utter shock.

Kyoujurou Rengoku

• Birthday: May 10th

Rengoku is the Flame Pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps. His breathing technique shows a balance between speed and strength. His immense amount of strength is amplified by his willpower, sense of justice, and passion for his job. Because of that, Rengoku is one of the most respectable characters in Anime. Rengoku’s Fire Breathing Technique shines a light that gives you a sense of hope every time you see him blazing while fighting.

Though he is a side character in the main series, he is the main character in the highest-grossing anime film, Demon Slayer Infinity Train. His personality is so contagious that he could make you enthusiastic whenever you see him, let alone talk to him. For those who have seen the movie, remembering his birthday is one of the ways of showing our respect to this character.

Kanao Tsuyuri

• Birthday: May 19th

Kanao is the disciple of Shinobu and her sister. She was adopted by them when she was a slave after being neglected by her parents. Unlike her mentors, she is practicing Flower Breathing Technique. It specializes in the speed of both her body and her weapon. (Minor spoiler alert) One of her ultimate techniques is to be able to perceive things slower when she faces Muzan, but the frequent usage of it costs her vision.

Unlike Shinobu, she talks less in a normal conversation unless it’s needed. Her cute character design adds charm to her silent personality which the viewers find her as endearing instead of boring. With her character dynamics with Tanjiro in the anime, most of the fans are already presumptuous about their ship sailing eventually. And overall, she is also a great waifu material.

Mitsuri Kanroji

• Birthday: June 1st

Kanroji is the Love Pillar of the Demon Slaying corps. Together with Shinobu, they are the only female members who managed to reach the level of Pillars. Her muscle density is eight times that of a regular human, making her the 2nd physically strongest in the Demon Slayer Pillars. Her way of fighting is through her utilization of inhuman strength and endurance together with her flexibility. Her sword is extremely thin that it bends and can be manipulated easier in any position and space. Underestimating her is totally a bad move.

Despite her amazing fighting abilities and superhuman strength, she has an endearing wish of finding an ideal man that gives her the love she deserves. On first impression, she is passionate and very kind to everyone she talks to. You can only see her bad side when she’s encountering demons, and that’s a good thing, to be honest.

Tanjirou Kamado

• Birthday: July 14th

The main character of the series. He primarily uses water breathing techniques but as he meets different people, his knowledge and breathing technique counts increase. Tanjiro has an overall balance between speed, intelligence, and strength. But with his impressive resolve and willpower, he is able to escape death multiple times and becomes stronger after every battle. Moreover, one of the best features he has in fighting is that his kindness and sympathy to his enemies are used as his source of strength.

Tanjiro is a very responsible brother to his younger siblings. But despite the tragedy of his family at the beginning of the story, he is able to resolve himself and move forward not because of revenge, but because of his kindness. We remember Tanjiro not as a Demon Slayer, but as a kind young man growing up despite his loss.

Muichiro Tokito

• Birthday: August 8th

The Mist Pillar, Tokitou, is the youngest Hashira who gained the rank in a mere 2 months, being the shortest time. His battle prowess is mostly refined in endurance and stamina. His mist-like breathing technique shows illusions to his enemies when they are under it, fading his opponent’s senses.

Besides his outstanding achievements, he is notably known for being one of the characters who has totally mastered their own breathing technique, and that cannot be easily defeated by anyone.  His current emotionless personality is due to him having lost his brother in the past.

Him being forgetful is ironically one of the trademarks of his character. As funny as it sounds, he is also a pure logical person which contradicts his forgetful personality. If you meet this kind of person, you better explain things again and again just to have a decent conversation with him.

Gyoumei Himejima

• Birthday: August 23rd

Gyoumei Himejima is no doubt the strongest Pillar. He perfected everything about his Stone Breathing Technique which left no question about his ability. His essence alone is intimidating enough that it might leave you to bow down to him for no reason. He even surpassed Mitsuri’s physical strength even though her body was abnormal in the first place.

Oh! I forgot to mention that he is actually blind. His awareness of his surroundings is superhuman, even knowing the fact that vision is crucial for fighting. But this doesn’t hinder his perfection to his techniques and being the strongest Pillar out there. There’s nothing more awesome than perfecting your techniques despite the huge disadvantage. Both the Pillars and some demons acknowledge his strength.

This guy’s appearance alone will make you give your deepest respect. Because of how amazing and strong he is, pissing him off would be way scarier than your mother. But worry not! His personality is not that ruthless at all. He’s actually very sympathetic to the people who deserve it.

Zenitsu Agatsuma

• Birthday: September 3rd

One of the main trio in the series, Zenitsu is a Thunder Breathing technique user. Taught strictly by his mentor, he only mastered and only focused on the first form of Thunder Breathing. Yes, you read it right! He embodies the famous quote “‎” I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”  from Bruce Lee.

He is usually scared to fight when awake, but when he falls asleep, you’re too late to realize that you are already cut in half because of his super-fast movement beyond what the eyes can capture. It might sound absurd but he is actually very strong when asleep. 

Zenitsu is famously known for being noisy in battles and a simp for every girl he sees. But when push comes to shove, you can expect him to be more reliable than he usually is no matter the situation.

Obanai Iguro

• Birthday: September 15th

Iguro is the Snake Pillar. Though the pillars are usually affiliated with elements like fire, water, thunder, or something else, Iguro’s Pillar title is affiliated with an animal just like Shinobu. You might wonder why, but here’s the reason. His Snake Breathing Style consists of his extrasensory perception using the help of his snake, together with his wide attacks that cover 360 degrees. What makes it worse is that his ruthless and despicable attitude only makes this attack merciless.

Of all the Pillars, he is the most despicable one due to how he arbitrarily treats Tanjiro and Nezuko badly, without even bothering to listen to their side. Moreover, he always looks down on the weak instead of protecting them. But he is actually aware of his despicable personality because of how he was born into a selfish and greedy clan. And because of those, this drives him crazy.

Tengen Uzui

• Birthday: October 31st

Tengen is the Sound Pillar and has a cool fighting style that specializes in speed. His way of fighting is using his insane speed and agility that even a demon would not be aware that they are already slashed. Just like Zenitsu, he also has a great sense of hearing which he combines with his sound-affiliated abilities.

He is a man with a beautiful sense of fashion. It might sound crazy but he has actually three wives, but once you know him, you might think that this guy deserves it. He is easily a lovable guy with a charisma that attracts you even if you’re a guy. Even if he sometimes has a carefree attitude, you cannot deny that he is very serious in his missions. 

November

Sanemi Shinazugawa

• Birthday: November 29th

Sanemi is the Wind Pillar. He mastered all of the breathing forms and combined them with his poisonous sword that can distort his opponent’s senses when cut. But what makes him stand out is his durability and strength. He is arguably the toughest member of the Pillars. As you read the manga, you will know why. Heavy injuries are just minor inconveniences for him.

And by the way, he is the brother of Genya, so you might wonder why Genya became the way he is now.

December

Nezuko Kamado

• Birthday: December 28th

Nezuko is the younger sister of Tanjiro. When she was attacked by a demon, her physiology upgraded her senses and physical strength that is beyond what a human can do. When knocking down demons, she is reliable and cannot be underestimated.

She has strong willpower and she still has a chance to regain her humanity as long as she won’t succumb to it. Aside from that, there is a random cute little ability she has, where she can change her sizes depending on the situation.

She is one of the most popular girls to exist in the anime community. If you have seen some of her appearances, you will know it. As a half-demon, she manages to act so adorably that you forget how dark the world they are living in is.

Conclusion

Remembering the characters’ birthdays are just part of how we appreciate them. Even if we forget about them months or years after finishing the anime they are in, you don’t have to actually remember their birthdays.

Considering the popularity of Demon Slayer, there is no doubt that there are various groups and communities out there dedicated to that show and characters. These people always remind us of each characters’ birthdays when they are celebrating it. And because of that, it shows that we are still remembering them even after finishing the series.
