Haikyuu, the sports anime that hit the world like a storm. After the release of its first season it immediately became loved and soon became the mainstream anime of its season. And as other anime fans joined the hype they were met with satisfaction, as it truly did live up to its popularity.
With its awesome slow-motion shots and fluid animation it does feel like you’re watching a real volleyball game. Then there’s the comedy. Though most anime lean towards adding comedy to their plots, Haikyuu puts its comedic value to a higher level. But, the abundance of different characters are what made it very popular. The anime does not only focus on the two main characters or the team they are in, but highlights different characters. In almost every season and as new teams are introduced, they are given enough spotlight that some might think they’re the protagonists. And with every group of people, we are introduced to different personalities that add spice to this wonderful dish called, Haikyuu.
Thus, I am here to list some of the characters and their Zodiac Signs. To figure out if you guys relate more to Hinata, a bright and optimistic Cancer or the cold perfectionist Capricorn, Kageyama.
HAIKYUU ZODIAC SIGNS!
Aries (March 21 – April 20)
Shinji Watari (April 3)

As the fire sign that starts the cycle, Aries likes to start things with a BANG and as a libero of Aoba Johsai High, Shinji Watari totally does bring the bang. Aries loves to be number one and would do their utmost best to hone their skills in a field that they love. They are also very competitive, the type of person that strives when challenged. In the match against Karasuno (Spring High Preliminary Arc), Shinji can be seen smiling when Nishinoya successfully copies the set that he uses. Igniting his competitive spirit. Other than that, he is seen as a gentle and cheerful member of Aoba Johsai.
Taurus (April 21 – May 20)
Kenjiro Shirabu (May 4)

The starting setter of Shiratorizawa Academy, Kenjiro Shirabu, is seen sporting his bowl cut with a usually emotionless expression. As the Taurus sign generally prefers the serene, Kenjiro mirrors it by being composed most of the time. Though can be seen as outwardly indifferent, what goes inside his mind is the opposite. Like most Taurus, he likes to study himself and others and works to improve or change himself.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
Hajime Iwaizumi (June 10)

Hajime Iwaizumi, the strong but sometimes goofy vice-captain of Aoba Johsai, is under the air sign Gemini. As the team’s ace and a very good wing-spiker, he shows a calm, firm, and reliable image making him a strong pillar to the team. As the Gemini sign usually showcases flexibility, other than a strong vice-captain, Iwaizumi, is also supportive and caring not just to his teammates but to others. He even stops Oikawa’s childish provocations to the enemy teams and would often resort to violence in order to do so.
Yutaro Kindaichi (June 6)

Another Gemini from the Aoba Johsai team is Yutaro Kindaichi. Being one of the starting middle blockers, Kindaichi is open to feedback and is ready to make changes into his game style and tactics in order to improve himself. Though often seen as intimidating due to being the tallest in his team and for the natural scowl in his face, he is innately a kind and a good person.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
Shoyo Hinata (June 21)

Our bright and passionate main character, Shoyo Hinata, was born on the 21st of June and is a Cancer. In the anime. Hinata can be seen as overly friendly to the point of befriending even those in the opposite teams, this is due to the caring attitudes of Cancer. He is very loyal to his teammates and compassionate to many people. Throughout the episodes, he constantly strives to improve himself and has proven his skills the more he faces other athletes.
Tohru Oikawa (July 20)

One thing that sums up Tohru Oikawa as a Cancer is his passive-aggressive attitude. He is smug and always tries to tease or instill fear in his opponents, that is just the outward perception that he wants you to think. I don’t know why I’m trying to psychoanalyze him, but yes, his flippant and flirty attitude is just a protective facade. As much as his outer shell is hard, he is also very observant, cunning, and uses his intelligence to formulate winning gameplays for his team—making him a very good captain.
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
Tsutomu Goshiki (August 22)

Tsutomu Goshiki, the only first year regular member and the wing spiker of Shiratorizawa Academy, is a Leo through and through. One of the cardinal traits of a Leo is his pride and ego, and oh boy! Does this not sum up Goshiki. He loves hogging the spotlight and theatrics that every time he does a good move he makes sure that everyone sees and acknowledges it. Having the name as the next ace of his team even though he is only a first year, made him overconfident in his skills. He sees the current ace, Ushijima, as a rival and fuels his ambition to surpass or become an even better ace when his time to rule comes.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
Hitoka Yachi (September 4)

Virgos are always ready to lend a hand and that is very obvious with Hitoka Yachi. The second manager of the Karasuno High volleyball team is like the cheerleader of the team. She is innately selfless and sensitive to things happening around her, that if some members of the team are having a tough time or in conflict with each other she herself gets affected. Then she’d do anything in her power to help. Just like how she creates posters to raise money for the team to use. Yachi is the kind and gentle imouto everyone wants to have.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
Kenma Kozume (October 16)

The heart and brain of Nekoma High, Kenma Kozume, is a textbook example of an intellectual Libra. As he makes calculative plays based on his awareness in the court, he brings balance and harmony to his team. Libras are great at thinking and starting new ideas, one can say they’re very innovative, that is probably why 2018 Kenma is a man of multiple careers. A university student, who is also a gamer and a YouTuber, trades stocks, and is the young CEO of Bouncing Ball Corp. He’d probably get into Forbes Magazine’s Young Billionaires list soon.
Yu Nishinoya (October 10)

Yu Nishinoya, the spontaneous and energetic libero of Karasuno High, is a Libra through and through since they are known to be people-pleasers. Just by being next to Nishinoya the team’s energy increases as he tries to make everyone happy. As a Libra, Nishinoya, loves companionship and thrives when near his close friends and acquaintances.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 22)
Tetsuro Kuroo (November 17)

Scorpio is often misunderstood as a fire sign because of its passion and power, and who else is passionate and powerful? The starting middle blocker and the captain of the Nekoma High volleyball team, Tetsuro Kuroo. I know this because I am one as well. His appearance with his tall frame, black spiky hair and cat-like eyes adds to his intimidating aura in and out of the court. He is often laid-back and is very observant. This trait makes him one of the best blockers out of all teams seen in the anime. You just know that when he is quiet he is already calculating and plotting several steps ahead. Hence, he was given the title of “scheming captain”.
Though emitting a very strong aura in court, Kuroo is a very reliable leader. Often using his provocations as a way to ease the tension. To some though it may trigger some nerves. Still he makes sure that his sly statements do not go too far.
Sagittarius (November 23 – December 21)
Kentaro Kyotani (December 7)

The wild Sagittarius from Aoba Johsai High, Kentaro Kyotani, has been given the nickname “mad dog” by his teammates. This is because as a free-spirited Sagittarius they are very blunt and brutally honest. This is why even if he holds the best ability in his team, he still has some trouble getting along with everyone, especially his senpais. He holds his abilities in high regard, showing off as arrogant. With his often violent tendencies, only a few people are able to tame him.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)
Tobio Kageyama (December 22)

Before joining Karasuno, Tobio Kageyama already had a name for himself as the “King of the Court”. As he joined the team, the nickname somehow became a burden forcing Kageyama to strive to always be perfect. This perfectionism and unwavering focus to achieve a goal is a huge indication of a Capricorn. People with this sign recognize that time is short and want to accomplish everything fast yet precise. These are reasons why Kageyama is seen as cold or even cutthroat. He is too focused on his skills. As evident with his selfish plays when in fact the sport requires teamwork. Capricorn’s age backwards though so as they grow older they become more optimistic and relaxed. This is why as the anime progresses, Kageyama learns to rely more on others and becomes a reliable teammate himself.
Daichi Sawamura (December 31)

Another Capricorn from the same team is the captain of Karasuno High, Daichi Sawamura. This Capricorn has all the good qualities of a leader. He is responsible and disciplined. The type that keeps pushing forward and just like most characters in the anime, has unwavering focus towards improvement. Other than being authoritative, he is a very good friend as well. Always supportive, caring, and patient towards his team. If Daichi was our research team leader, everybody would probably pull their weight and we’d probably have an A+, but no, these useless idiots are what I get.
Aquarius (January 20 – February 19)
Haruki Komi (January 23)

The starting libero of Fukurodani Academy is the closest when it comes to personality to his Zodiac Sign. As an Aquarius, he is a good team player. Komi can always be seen as excited and loud when with his friends and teammates, and that is because he thrives when collaborating with others. Teamwork is the only work that Aquarius’ knows. Being a naturally humanitarian air sign, Aquarius’ like Komi is very supportive and encouraging to others.
Pisces (February 20 – March 20)
Issei Matsukawa (March 1)

As the last water sign of the Zodiac, we have Issei Matsukawa, to end our list as well. One of the middle blockers of Aoba Johsai, Matsu is like every Aquarius ever. Looks intimidating outside but is very gentle inside when you get to deeply know them. Because of Matsu’s small eyes, hooded eyelids and his blocking ability, he looks very intimidating yet deep down he’s easy-going and kind. This is why we should never judge a book by its cover.
Conclusion

Haikyuu is one of the best sports anime that is adored by different types of anime fans. You can also try reading some sports manhwa if you don’t like watching it. The thrill is just the same tho.
Even becoming an anime that introduces non-anime fans into the cultured world of Japanese animations. Just like its audience, the characters in the anime have a really wide range of personalities as well. My only goal in writing this blog is for you to relate more into these characters. Have you found your Zodiac twin in Haikyuu?
