Being the only one who has “no special powers” in a school for students with super powers, he allows himself to get bullied by strong, elite students. He gets discriminated against and abused along with the other low-tier students.
Yet later as the story goes on, the TRUTH about John’s dark past gets uncovered, and the people around him are shaken as they discover that who they knew was the weakest among them, is actually the strongest. Along with his friends, John starts to uncover the conspiracies that surround their society and drives them to make a change in their world.

Scarlet, also known as Ante Nora in her previous life, is the main character in the manhwa I’m the Grim Reaper. When she died, she lost all her precious memories and was taken to the underworld, where she met the devil. There, she was told of all the worst things she had ever done, and was given her an option either to become one of Satan’s death angels, or be doomed unto Hell, (a complete void of nothingness awaits).
To steer away from her fate, she decided to work for the devil and became a Grim Reaper. She needs to eliminate one wrong-doer a day to meet her quota. While doing her duties as a grim reaper, she encounters a person who is attempting to solve Case X, a mysterious case involving her. Wanting answers about her past life, Scarlet worked with the officer to investigate her past life and the wrongs she committed that caused her to be sentenced to the hell’s 9th circle, all while trying to conceal her true nature as a death angel.
I’m the Grim Reaper and unOrdinary just have a few similarities: the presence of supernatural beings and a mysterious twist from the past as the story unfolds. Though they only have few similarities, it still has a wonderful and amazing plot.

Being born again into a new world is what some people believe and want to try as well. I mean, who doesn’t want to relive and redo our past mistakes and decisions right? This is what King Grey experienced after having it all, all the world could give but it left him empty.
King Grey had it all. Unfathomed strength, overwhelming wealth, and almost all privileges in a world governed by monarchy. However, solitude follows for those with great power. Under the glorious exterior of a powerful king, hides the vulnerable husk of man, empty of purpose and will.
When Grey was reincarnated into a different world, it was filled with unusual monsters and wondrous magic. But the good thing is the king has a fresh chance to redo his life as Arthur Leywin. Repairing the mishaps of his past will not be his only goal.
However, beneath the tranquility and luxury of this new world, there is a ‘crosscurrent’ that will soon destroy everything he has worked hard for, challenging his character and sense for being reborn.
Having the chance to change the past and begin a new world are both present in the plots of unOrdinary and The Beginning After the End. Also both MCs are strong enough to change the tide that occurs in their own respective stories. They both deliver satisfying revenge plots as well to those who look down on them or their friends.
19. SSS Class Suicide Hunter

8/20 | 8/10 | 9/10 | 10/10 | 35/50 |
Envy can really manipulate our thoughts into actions, that’s how strong a driving force it is. But you know what? Our man, Kim Gong-ja, made his envy be his ticket to turn his below-average way of life to a high pay grade of living.
Kim Gong-ja, the protagonist of SSS Class Suicide Hunter, was envious of the tower’s successful hunters. The tower decided to reward his envy since it was so strong. This below-average hunter’s life was turned upside down when he obtained an S-Rank Skill Card for developing wicked envy.
His S-Rank Skill Card granted him the ability to imitate the skills of those who killed him. But before replicating the power of those who killed him, he had to die first. In short, no pain no gain, no guts no glory.
He continues to work on the tower with the guild leaders with whom he has become friends. Now that sounds a whole lot like John Doe, right? Being friends with strong people and having supernatural abilities as well. Not to mention the bullying and remorse they get because of the society they are in.
So if you liked unOrdinary, you’d surely love SSS Class Suicide Hunter as well.
18. I’m Destined to Greatness

He was formerly a Rank 2 Fantasy Online player who came to face Lee Se-Yeon, the game’s Rank 1 player, and lost to her only because his weapon’s 98% Critical Chance did not trigger.
Now, he joined the game again and set out to put all of his Stat Points into ‘Luck‘ because of the fact that the 2% Critical Chance screwed him up. Why become the best player in the world’s hottest online game if you’re going to do it the easy way? He decided to become ‘Jobless’. Warrior? Nope. Rogue? Nah.
Unfortunately, investing all stats on luck seemed to be opposing his desire for challenge because now, the game favors him too much and he ended up becoming the god of luck. Would Kim Tae-Hyun’s luck be enough this time to regain his confidence and be the rank 1 in this second chance?
Determination and endurance is needed to climb up the ranks and beat your foes. Both of these are present in the characters of John and Kim Tae-hyun. They both struggle in the world of discrimination and supernatural abilities. And was favored with a great opportunity to lift themselves up again.
16. Noblesse

We have talked about supernatural beings in this list and how normal people can be carriers of their will. Well, this next one is one of those supernatural beings that wants to understand how normal people live and enjoy life. He is no other than ‘Rai’ short for Cadis Etrama Di Raizel of the beings called the “Noblesse.”
A Noblesse is a powerful count who took a very long nap of 820 years. No wonder Rai has no knowledge of the advancements of mankind and scientific achievements. At the beginning, Rai wakes up in an abandoned building, and starts to learn more of this developed world.
He went to a school as a normal young man, and there, he is reunited with his loyal attendant, Frankenstein. With his help, Rai enrolled into the school and befriended an energetic teenager named Shinwoo, computer nerd Ikhan, and Yuna (Shinwoo’s love interest) and some others. The whole story follows the gang’s often dangerous journey against a villainous secret organization while uncovering the truth about Rai’s past.
Noblesse and UnOrdinary are similar to each other with their MC’s having hidden strengths and as the story unfolds they discover their true strengths. Both of these stories also involve supernatural abilities and skill among the protagonists and their friends. They also have a similar setting in a school.
15. God of High School

Talking about bullies in school, what is the better way to prove their toughness than joining a tournament right? Introducing “The God of High School,” a tournament to know the strongest in their school. And our boy Mori Jin is more than pumped to prove his strength in it.
Mori Jin is a high school student who happens to be a Taekwondo specialist as well. He enters the God of High School tournament which promises the winner to have anything they want. At first look it was like any ordinary competition but later on they discovered what’s more to it.
The God of High School is an action packed manhwa and is filled with different kinds of martial arts. It coincides as well with unOrdinary because of its setting, age of the protagonists and having superhuman abilities too. The god of High School is fun to read along with some humorous lines and beautiful artwork.
14. Tower of God
Similarity | Plot | Character Writing | Art | Total |
14/20 | 8/10 | 8/10 | 6/10 | 36/50 |
Life at times feels like climbing up a tower. It tires us and at some point we even desire to just stop climbing then go back down. But may the Twenty-Fifth Bam inspire us as he climbs up the Tower of God.
Bam has spent almost all of his life imprisoned beneath a huge Tower that is full of mystery. Along with Rachel whom he treated more than a friend and looked up to as his light. But when Rachel left Bam to enter the Tower, Bam was heart-broken. Somehow, Bam found a way to access the Tower’s door.
Now, he’ll go anywhere and do everything just to see Rachel again even if it means death. Upon climbing up the Tower, he gained new friends that helped him up the tower. Still, Bam has yet to see and know who he really is and how powerful he can be.
Tower of God and unOrdinary are both similar—having young lads who have supernatural abilities and skills. They are both stories of friendship, revenge and redemption.
13. Leveling Up by Only Eating
Similarity | Plot | Character Writing | Art | Total |
10/20 | 10/10 | 10/10 | 8/10 | 38/50 |
Since our childhood days we were told to eat our veggies and we’d grow strong. Yet now that we have grown much, we realized that eating our veggies is not enough to be stronger. But you know what? Kang Min Yeok has the most awesome abilities among all in this list, for he is Leveling Up by Only Eating!
Kang Min Yeok is stricken by an unusual condition of ‘malnourished deficiency.’ He can eat plenty but at the same time his body purges what he eats, making his hunger unquenched. He had talked to a doctor who suggested playing an alternate reality game called ‘Athens’, where he can eat as much as he wants.
He plays the game as the doctor advised, to redeem his life and develop in strength by just eating and nothing else! A Gourmet Fantasy Life indeed!
Well, we guess that the only similar thing with unOrdinary and Leveling Up by Only Eating is the desire of the MCs to be stronger. Though their ways are not similar their drive to be out of the bottom and weakest sector are sure intact. John and Min Yeok unlocked their hidden potential by knowing and believing in themselves more.
12. The Player Who Can’t Level Up
Similarity | Plot | Character Writing | Art | Total |
12/20 | 9/10 | 9/10 | 8/10 | 38/50 |
When we are younger, we’re often told that being number one or in the top ranks should be our priority in life but not so with Kim Kigyu of The Player Who Can’t Level Up. He proves that rank isn’t everything and what matters most is a strong will, endurance, determination and right timing overcomes everything.
He received his invitation to become a player, a person with strong abilities, after turning 18 and assumed his life would be fulfilled. But regardless of how many attempts he makes, he just can’t level up. Who’d have thought that there would be this kind of player?
After working hard as a guide for five long years in the tower’s lower floors, his party encountered a guardian on the 4th floor which led him to finally discover his ability to link with “Egos,” these are relics with consciousness, and have amazing abilities and powers. He journeyed through the tower and raised to the top as the new skills of his Egos unlocked.
Kigyu’s determination and endurance through hardship mirrors John Doe’s character. Well, that aside from the fact that they both live in a world where superhuman abilities exist. Also they like the rest of our MC’s in this list, they know what it’s like to be at the bottom of the food chain.
11. Lumine
Similarity | Plot | Character Writing | Art | Total |
15/20 | 9/10 | 9/10 | 7/10 | 40/50 |
The main character of the manhwa LUMINE is Lumine. He’s a clumsy and shy young werewolf who disguised himself for safety. His right eye is blue, and his left eye is half-blue, half-golden, and because he couldn’t control his full ability yet, he would transform into a small puppy rather than the massive wolf he is. He was working for 2 months but was fired and he found himself living on the streets until a lost boy child named Kody approached him.
Lumine became Kody’s bodyguard, an aloof witch boy. Lumine tries to befriend Kody and do everything to gain Kody’s trust, while Kody tries to keep Lumine at bay. Their friendship grew from there, and they developed a dynamic that worked for them. Until a tragic accident forced them to face life together on their own.
Lumine and unOrdinary has the same world setting where supernatural beings exist and our MC is being targeted with violence and discrimination because of their outward life status. Both of these stories have a somewhat similar past—a past that gives them the potential to turn the world upside down.
10. Code: Adam
Similarity | Plot | Character Writing | Art | Total |
13/20 | 10/10 | 10/10 | 8/10 | 41/50 |
Having supernatural powers can make us heroes in an instant or turn us into villains that spread fear to the people who are afraid of our powers. Human as we are, we have the tendency to fear the unknown. And that fear is present in the heart of Atlas and the rest of his friends in the manhwa called “Code:Adam.”
Atlas along with other children was brought up into a facility to be experimented upon. They were trained from childhood to become weapons of war. They were beings literally created in a lab to fight in the bloody war, and be on its frontlines to make it worse.
But after the war ended, what are the uses of these human-weapons? This is where Atlas and the rest of the children of brutal experiments, chose to do a prison break. And some of them searched for a cure before they self-destruct.
Its similarities with unOrdinary is for young kids/teenagers having supernatural abilities. It is also a story of redemption and freedom from oppression which has the same taste of unOrdinary. Beings once used as tools now have the freedom to choose to stay free and live as they want to.
12. Solo Leveling
Similarity | Plot | Character Writing | Art | Total |
12/20 | 10/10 | 10/10 | 10/10 | 42/50 |
Being at the bottom may not be bad but when your life is at stake and your expenses as well, you have to strive to reach the top. This is the mindset of Sung Jin Woo who was the weakest hunter in the world but later changed because of an event that transformed his life totally and began his journey in Solo Leveling.
Sung Jin Woo lives in a world where humans possess magical abilities and are called ‘hunters.’ Their job is to defeat deadly monsters to defend the human race from total annihilation. Sung Jin Woo was known as the weakest hunter ever.
He eventually finds himself in an endless battle for survival, where his job is barely keeping him alive. One day, he merely survived a disastrous party raid where almost all of his party members died because of a trap created by a baffling program called the System. The System chose him as its exclusive player and in return, it gave him the rarest ability of all.
Jin Woo now is able to raise up his strength, in a stage of limitlessness. He then sets out on a journey to wipe out all his enemies that threaten him and his family, may it be men or monsters. Later on he discovers the dungeon secrets and the truthful origin of his powers as well.
Like unOrdinary, Solo Leveling is a story of self-discovery and overcoming the odds of life. Jin-Woo and John both have someone they love to protect and even to the point of sacrificing themselves. They gained supernatural abilities because of their determination to overcome their limits.
9. The Gamer
Similarity | Plot | Character Writing | Art | Total |
14/20 | 10/10 | 10/10 | 8/10 | 42/50 |
Have you ever imagined life as a game? Like, having quests and leveling up your skills and abilities? If so, you can truly relate with Han Jihan, our MC in this manhwa, “The Gamer.”
Han Jihan was given an ability called The Gamer that allowed him to experience the world as a game. He realized that, just like in a game, he can level up and improve his attributes and skills. His friend, who was already part of the world of Abyss, warned him to stay out of it. However, Ji-Han decided to stay in the world of abyss despite whatever dangerous situation he’ll encounter. He made the decision to continue leveling up and strengthening himself in order to survive in the Abyss and defend others around him.
Han Jihan is driven by his desire to be strong and rise up to the upper ranks mirrors that of John from UnOrdinary. Has the same society that has supernatural abilities. And to fight for his friends and make a change in their world.
8. Zero Game

Most people today want a total restart in their lives. I mean who doesn’t? All our past mistakes and wrong decisions in life can be changed! And that’s the chance Hanna took in this next manwha called Zero Game.
Hanna Yoo is a young orphaned lady who receives a mysterious invitation from her deceased father to compete in Zero Game, a survival game in which the lone winner is given the ability to reset their life in the real world.
Hanna chose to throw away her current life, believing it had nothing else to offer, in exchange for the possibility to rebuild it. She entered the game with high-level powers and quickly rose to the top of the Zero Game rankings. She instantly befriends Alex Baek and pair-shares with him after entering the game. They went through all of the game’s difficulties together, slowly uncovering the truth about the past.

17/20 | 10/10 | 10/10 | 6/10 | 43/50 |
Remember that saying what goes up must come down? Well, our boy Gong Won-Ho from Hardcore Leveling Warrior experienced that the hard way. Like literally HARD WAY! Won-Ho is the top player in the world’s most popular game, Lucid Adventure.
Won-Ho’s wonderful days, however, come to an end when he is killed by a mysterious player with only a shabby sword. Turns out that the sword used was a Legendary Weapon created by Zero, the Master Blacksmith. Because of that, Won-Ho returns back to level one and now has to fight his way back to No. 1 Rank and escape Chairman Kim’s grasp by earning enough money to pay off his debts.
Although Won-Ho is much older and rash than John of unOrdinary, they both are well skilled and strong enough to rise to rank one again. They are both strong-willed and almost have the same goals in life. Both of them also have the desire to overcome their strong foes with their own skills and abilities. But would it be enough for them to reach their goals, and overcome the strongest to be at the top?
6. Return to Player
Similarity | Plot | Character Writing | Art | Total |
16/20 | 10/10 | 10/10 | 8/10 | 44/50 |
We have talked about life being transformed into an online game and as amazing as it sounds, the danger that follows that idea can really be life-threatening. Sehan had experienced that in a much horrific way. Having a chance to be a Return to Player, he went back in time to try to correct his mistakes and come out to save people as much as he can.
Some gods a decade ago turned the people on this World into competitors to play a game of life and death. They were forced to kill hideous creatures in real life or themselves be killed by the monsters. Sehan previously has seen how his world ended up.
Everybody in the world dies excluding him. He was then given the opportunity of a lifetime, to travel through time and restart the whole thing again. Sehan has devoted his heart and life to beat those gods that made his life–hell in their own game. Will he beat the gods first before the gods know his plans?
John may not have the chance to see the future of what is to come but surely he knows how it feels to lose someone in a world full of supernatural phenomena. And John and Sehan have that same kind of spirit of just and drive to beat anyone who stands in their way to prove their own justice. Check Return to Player now to see for yourselves the mystery of this story.
5. Ability
Similarity | Plot | Character Writing | Art | Total |
17/20 | 10/10 | 10/10 | 8/10 | 45/50 |
Another cool story of from being an odd one to be top of the ranks is the manhwa Ability. With Han Yu-Hwa, a notable café owner with a self-regeneration ability as our main protagonist. One day as Yu-Hwa was getting off from his coffee shop, a little girl approached him for assistance. Then as a huge truck was coming, Yu Wha noticed that same little girl running after her hat.
Without any hesitation Yu Wha jumped into the scene and saved the little girl. Later, waking up in a hospital he found out he was recovering faster than expected and not just that, he now sees the supernatural beings called ‘Another’ existing alongside human kind. What other secrets in the world would Yu Wha discover? And what would his role be in this new discovery?
Ability’s similarity with the unordinary is their protagonist’s selflessness. They would rather get their lives endangered than other people. And they both have an existing inner ability that was awakened by an event. Well, those and that they are living in a world where supernatural beings exist.
4. The Boy of Death
Similarity | Plot | Character Writing | Art | Total |
18/20 | 10/10 | 10/10 | 8/10 | 46/50 |
Have you ever wanted to have a skill or ability from a dead person? Like for example having the ability of Muhammad Ali, one of the greatest boxers of all time, to fight off some bullies; or have the brain of Einstein to ace all the exams—life would be so easy. This kind of deal was given to Lee Kyung Ho of The Boy of Death, being from nothing to something.
The Boy of Death is about Lee Kyung Ho, a bullied young man who had recently lost his mother. He considered suicide as a result of his grief, thinking it’s better to die than to live. Sierra, a grim reaper, became fascinated by his desire to die. She proposed a deal that would grant him the capacity to borrow the abilities of the dead in order to help him achieve his goals.
Imagine borrowing Bruce Lee’s talents and strength; that is the temporary ability that Kyung Ho will have. This, however, is in exchange for Kyung Ho’s lifespan. Kyung-Ho accepted and formed a deal with Sierra, believing he had nothing else to give. He then went on with his life to get what he desired for.
Like John from unOrdinary, Lee Kyung Ho knows how it is to be at the bottom and be an outcast. And after finding a way or secret, they turn their world upside down. Either way both of these manhwa have awesome plots.
3. Flow
Similarity | Plot | Character Writing | Art | Total |
18/20 | 10/10 | 10/10 | 9/10 | 47/50 |
“Born with a silver spoon in his mouth”, a statement to describe a rich person since birth. If that’s so, what are we going to call people who have been born with a god inside them? That’s crazy right? That’s the norm in Yun Lee-Rang’s world inside the manhwa called FLOW.
In Yun Lee-Rang’s world, every child is born with an anima, or guardian god. Some gods are lesser than others, while some are stronger. As a result, the hierarchy of power was established.
Those with weak gods are looked down on and treated differently than children with stronger gods. One thing they all have in common is that their gods can grant wishes for an equal price. People assumed the main character’s god was only a cat, therefore he faced discrimination.
Those who looked down on Yun Lee-Rang had no idea that he was the white tiger, and that he was the strongest anima of all animas, with the ability to turn back time. Now, Lee-Rang goes to high school to train on how to control his powerful god and to fix what needs to be fixed.
Lee-Rang’s situation is parallel to John’s circumstance where the weak are being discriminated against and are abused by other people who have supernatural skills or abilities. It’s always satisfying when we see common people rising from bottom to top because of their abilities and determination. If you love unOrdinary’s plot, surely you’d love Flow as well.
2. DICE
Similarity | Plot | Character Writing | Art | Total |
18/20 | 10/10 | 10/10 | 10/10 | 48/50 |
People say that life is like a DICE, sometimes you get one, sometimes a perfect six. But what if you found a magical dice that can give you supernatural abilities regarding what number shows up? That will surely change the society we are living in, like Dongtae in this manhwa DICE.
The story revolves around dice which are magical artifacts that provide their owners enhanced physical and mental abilities, as well as supernatural abilities. The first dice fell to the ground, and the first person to reach the impact site was a little boy who then became X. He assigned peculiar missions to anyone and rewarded them with dice.
Our protagonist in this cool manhwa is Dongtae. He was not gifted with intelligence, height or anything that would make him eye-catching. He was constantly bullied and unable to approach his crush Eunjoo, but later on he was saved from despair by becoming a Dicer after stalking Taebin, a classmate who suddenly became handsome and intelligent.
Dongtae accidentally triggers a Die when he struggles with Taebin and thus becomes a Dicer. He then struggled to get his hands to the Final Die to fulfill his true desire—for everyone to be happy.
Like John Doe, Dongtae was also bullied by other people in a school setting and defied the impossible with their supernatural abilities. Yet, their heart shows their true desire. To change the world for the betterment of those being abused and powerless.
1. Weak Hero

Having a friend who will fight for you is truly a gift and all the more if that friend lays down his life for our sake. That is why everyone needs to have a Gray in their lives. We’re not talking about a color but rather, the hero for the weak from the manhwa ‘Weak Hero.”
Most of us prolly know the fact that once the bullies got their eyes on you, you’d know that your life is game over. When the school is dominated by bullies whose only favorite thing to do to pass time is abusing the weakest kids in class, but then Gray arrived. Although being a new student, Gray made his debut to protect and disband the bullying days.
He may be short physically, but his strategic and brutal way of fighting leaves his opponents lying on the ground asking for forgiveness. Now the school’s toughest tyrants have to scatter just to take down this new and unusual hero.
The Weak Hero and unOrdinary are so alike in many ways. We get to see their somewhat similar back stories, the setting in a school where bullies or tyrants are on the top of the food chain and the weak ones are at the bottom. Then comes Gray and John who are both unusual characters who challenged the norm.
Will our heroes be able to achieve their goals and change the world with the strength they have? Let’s find out together how their fate unfolds and see to the end as they prove to not judge a book by its cover.
