Pride month has passed, but we still celebrate the gender recognition of everyone. In fact, there are over 64 genders that can define a person. He or she could be pangender, bigender, nonbinary, etc. But one of the most recognized ones we have is transgender.
“Transgender” is an umbrella term for people who identify themselves as having a different sexual orientation than what was assigned to them at birth. Moreover, they could be living a different lifestyle than what society has set them to do… maybe because it is something that they want. This kinda reminds us of other anime characters that have backstories of why they chose to have the gender difference they have right now.
I know you are quite curious about those anime characters that are either known or secretly transgender. So, without further ado, here’s the list of the best transgender anime characters.
COOLEST ANIME CHARACTERS THAT ARE TRANSGENDER

This next anime character, by her name, you would say that he’s manly.. Well, you’re kinda right, but not totally. She has long blonde hair that’s very pretty. She isn’t a main character, but her contribution as well as her role in the anime are just as important as those of a MC. On top of that, she’s a badass.
When chaos took over the world, she stayed alive by getting close to and falling in love with a strong gangster with a face like a dragon named Mad Saulus. Blue’s personality is twisted and psychotic, which makes her look scary on screen. I wouldn’t want to make trouble for her.
Even though she was smart and good at making plans, she was killed by Jack the Ripper’s men. Mad Saulus, who was in love with Blue, swore to get even with Jack for assassinating her.

Kintarou Arisugawa was a side character in the anime Maria Watches Over Us. She goes to Hanader Academy, a normal school for boys where she is in high school.
Kintarou does have the body of a man, but her character. personality as well as nature are like those of a woman. She has said that she wished to be born as a girl. This makes her a character who is transgender… well, we can not recognize which of the transgender she is.
Since she was a child, her female and male sides of her identity have been at odds. For example, Kintarou wanted to go to Lilian’s Girl Academy, a renowned school for girls, but she couldn’t because she had a male body.
She is shy, but Kinatarou finally started to believe in her way of life when her style icon, Sachiko Ogasawara, handled and treated her too well regardless of the gender she had.

The anime No Guns Life had a character named Christina Matsuzaki who was a side character. She looks like an old woman because she has a male body and medium-length purple hair.
Her body looks like that of a man, but she calls herself a transgender woman.
A detective with a face similar to a revolver named Juuzuo Inui rents a room from Christina. Most of the people she knows call her “Chris.”
The most noticeable thing about her is that she is kind and loves to be around smart and attractive people. Even though Juuzou isn’t very pretty, she’s kind to him.
Chris is always making jokes about her rentals. For example, she smooches one of Juuzou’s clients out of love, even though she later says she’s sorry for what she did.

This character is actually one of the most known transgender characters we have in this list. Maybe some of you don’t have any idea about this character but I’m sure her looks actually reminds you of someone.
Even though Aoi looks like a woman, the other characters keep calling her a man, and her desire to be a man is always made fun of. Well, because she was actually a man but growing up, she chose to be a woman. This makes her transgender.
Every chance it gets, the show makes a big deal out of the fact that Aoi is different and puts her in situations that highlight the fact that she is transgender.

People usually get confused about whether to address a transgender person as either a male or female. And personally, there are times when I get doubtful about calling a transgender person “he” or “she.” Just like Mario from Cagaster of an Insect Cage.
We all know that Mario is a boy’s name… This name has been set by our norms to be a name for boys, and simply reminds us of Mario from that arcade game. But the Mario from “Cagaster of an Insect Cage” is kinda different. Well, by just being widely known as a transgender person in her village.
Ms. Mario is a transgender person who lives in trade city and owns the saloon Garden Mario. She goes by and is called she/her. Ms. Mario looks like a man and can be seen in her pink dress together with the white ruffles, pink heeled shoes, and a flower in her hair.

“Kun” in Japanese is used to address men who are either younger or the same age as the speaker. But for the case she is actually a transgender person, simply a girl who is biologically born as a boy.
Hibari is sweet, cute and famous among boys, but she’s also very bossy, independent, and aggressive. Most of this is because she was brought up in the yakuza, however the best part is that neither of these traits are used to make her seem more masculine.

You can also use gender-neutral pronouns to talk about Mako’s birth gender. When she acts like a girl in her teens, she uses female pronouns.
Shuichi and Makoto are about the same size, but Makoto is a bit shorter. Makoto’s body is a little bit rounder, but he is not fat at all. In the same way, they have round faces that make them look like women. Mako’s medium-brown hair is cut in a bowl shape, and small bangs fall across their forehead.
They also look like anime girls because their eyes are round and big. Mako wears big glasses and has dark blue eyes. Their skin is fair skinned for a man, but that makes them look even better. Mako has freckles, too, but they’re not very obvious.

Takatsuki Yoshino is a boy who people thought was a girl when he was born. At the start of Wandering Son, he is a fifth-grader in Shuichi’s class. Yoshino has gray hair with gray highlights and wears it in a bowl cut like a boy. They have deep brown eyes that look a little greenish and even beige skin.
Being biologically female isn’t that too recognized for his appearance given that he’s too tall and masculine compared to the females of his age group. Most of his classmates actually find him handsome and charming. Together with his good charisma and sense of fashion, he can easily make a person fall in love with him.

Another minor character in Hozuki’s Coolheadedness was Oni, who was a transgender woman. He looks like a demon in his middle years with short, curly brown hair who lives in hell.
Transgender Oni’s horns aren’t very big, and they look great with his normally short hair. Transgender Oni has a male body, but he thinks of himself as a woman. This is why he is called “Transgender Oni.”
The idea behind his personality and character is pretty unique because it shows that mythical creatures, just like people, can have different kinds of genders. I think the concept should be looked into a bit more so that even in fantasy anime, characters can be more open to everyone. His favorite outfit is a Kimono, which he wears all the time.

Our top transgender anime character, Shuuichi Nitori, is among the main characters of the anime Wandering Son. She looks like a pretty young girl with short hair that goes well with who she is.
Shuuichi is actually biologically a boy, even though she looks and acts like a girl. Society couldn’t recognize her as a man because she looked, acted, and talked like a woman. Shuuichi himself liked it when people treated her like a girl. In short, she changes from a man to a woman.
Even though she only has a few friends, Shuuichi was portrayed to be a very helpful and friendly person in the anime. People are more likely to like her because of being truthful and genuine.
Shuuichi has become friends with Takatsuki, who is biologically a girl but grows up to be a boy. Because they both chose the same path in life, they became good friends.
Final Notes
Okay, so you have been introduced to some of the terms under the umbrella term “transgender.” You are presented as a transman, a transwoman, a genderqueer bisexual person, and many more. But keep in mind that you should mistook a male character as transgender just because he looks like a girl… Remember that Inusoke looks a lot like a girl, but he’s sure that he’s straight,
Actually, we still have numerous lists of characters that are worthy of being included on this list. In fact, some of them are a bit lowkey. Just like in a typical real-life situation, people are afraid of disclosing their gender orientation because of the standards that have been set by culture and society. Respect and peace are universal standards, not a fragile masculinity mixed with homophobia.
Okay, I think that’s it for our list. I hope you’ve read everything because each character has their own background story. Just remember that everyone is born this way.
