Blue Lock is a shonen manga serialized back in 2018, its popularity made it possible for it to have an anime adaptation this 2022! Rightfully so! The series has taken the anime fandom by storm! 

By its interesting plot on Japan’s means to create the best striker through Jinpachi Ego! With such a complex plot and genre, we have an array of characters to meet and love! 

MEET THE BLUE LOCK PLAYERS!

Yoichi Isagi 

Our main boy Yoichi Isagi is taking over the world with his abilities. As someone who used to play as a forward in his High School football team, it’s no doubt he was picked to be part of the Blue Lock project. With his main goal of becoming the world’s best striker, to start climbing that goal,he slowly became the foundation of Team Z. 

Isagi’s personality is what makes him a good leader, as he is friendly with everyone and is easygoing. He tends to be a cheerful person and would often be helpful to others. His thought processing is usually contemplative and pragmatic. His good nature sometimes annoys the heck out of people, but hey–to each their own. 

Off the field, Isagi is known to be very positive which emulates him being an Aries. He likes to lead his team with a cheerful disposition, however, don’t ignore this bubble for too long because Isagi gets sad too! On the field, Isagi has amazing spatial awareness and would create ideal plays for his team. As a raumdeuter, he can understand the players, he uses his off-the-ball movements to locate empty spaces and create outrageous chances for his team to score. This allows him to bring out the best in his teammates and at the same time, secure points for his team.  

Jinpachi Ego 

Jinpachi Ego is an interesting individual that has been handpicked by Anri Teieri to be the coach and manager of the Blue Lock Project. He’s very hard to forget since he first appeared in the anime and in the 1st chapter of the manga too. He is depicted as a skinny tall man with his hair styled in a short bob cut. The kind of hair that would remind you of Rock Lee… yeah that hairstyle. 

He has thick black frame glasses that he matches with black jeans and a black tee, with a tassel around his neck. Nothing much is known about Ego, but one thing for sure is that his methods for training are ruthless. He is overly ambitious and confident, emphasizing ‘ego’ as his name outwardly represents how self-serving this man is. 

He does not waste any opportunity to tell his players that putting the team first is ‘second-rate’ since his views rely more on individual growth. The enemies out there are your opponents and your teammates. He also likes to give his players the cold-heart truth, in the guise of strengthening them.  

Meguru Bachira

Meguru Bachira is a whimsical character in the series, but don’t mistake his whimsy personality as his football abilities are astronomical. As a contender for the Blue Lock project, he secures his position with the mention that he has a “monster” inside him. And… yeah he’s a beast on the field!

Off the field, Bachira is an eccentric person that exudes tons of energy and cheer. He would never run out of energy, well… except when he probably sleeps, but what’s funny about that is that he’ll end up falling asleep at any unexpected moment. PLUS, the fact that he enjoys being around his friends is giving him off as a Leo, and he relies on his friends to wake him up for important aspects (even during meals). 

On the field, Bachira takes the role of a dribbler where his close-ball control is exceptional! His technique allows him to break through his opponents’ defenses so that only highly-skilled players can stop his tracks. And you’ll rarely see the ball get taken from him. Not only that, but his passing is also on par with his dribbling abilities, ensuring that his teammates get the ball no matter what. His skills only skyrocket from here as he evolves his dribbling ability to a more counteractive technique where he reads his opponent’s movements and bases his next step from there. 

Eita Otoya 

Next up on our character list is Eita Otoya, who is currently fourth in rank in the original 300 forwards of the Blue Lock Project. So, his skills are no joke. He stands out in a cool way with flat white hair with a patch of green in the middle, the hair by his neck is also green (lmao, I’m definitely trying that pattern of hair dye). 

Off the field, Otoya is a laid-back person that rarely breaks any sweat or stress, even when he’s in a game. He also tends to taunt his opponents and finds it entertaining when Rin and Shidou bicker… yeah, he’s giving off a Kei Tsukishima vibe. And if you didn’t know, he was quite a chick magnet when he was a kid. 

On the field, he’s quite confident with his skills and takes the role of a Shadow Striker. Shadow Strikers are important in the team as their main agenda is goalscoring. Otoya is quite agile, thus his position allows him to get into goal scoring positions, and can react quickly when opponents strike.  His speed got Ego to notice him and become a pawn in Ego’s grand plan. 

Gin Gagamaru 

Our boy Gin Gagamaru has dreams similar to the rest of the Blue Lock characters: to become the best in the world, even in the Project. His body and abilities are absolutely ideal for being a goalkeeper. 

Little is still known about Gagamaru’s personality, but this just adds to the mysterious character… in fact, he believes that the best way to spend a holiday is by meditating at a bamboo grove while speaking to the animals in the mountains. 

On the field, he does what he can to defend their goal by being a Goal Poacher. He has the physique and reflexes to prove just how good he is, he’s able to adapt to any pass or any play that the team could make. His playstyle is what made him score enough goals for Team Z and last up until the 3rd Selection. 

Hyoma Chigri 

This pretty-faced ikemen got looks that could make him pass as a girl at first glance! Chigiri is a prodigy in being a forward, but because of a leg injury, he regressed and started doubting himself. His reddish-pink hair led to his feminine look, earning him the title of “Kunoichi” or “Princess” because of how beautiful he is… ugh if I had the looks. 

Off the field, he used to be quite mean to those whose skills couldn’t match his. But, ever since he injured his ACL, his sense of superiority and confidence crumbles. But once he is able to regain his confidence, he shows a sense of stubbornness and will always leave an “effect” on the field. He also likes to take care of his luscious looks, keeping his princess face in shape.

On the field, his natural physical abilities allow him to run at great lengths with his focus. He’s a literal beast with a princess’s face. As a counter attacker, he uses his speed to beat defenders and create unexpected opportunities to score. He continues to hone his skills and refine them, carefully learning from his previous skills. 

Ikki Niko

Ranked 63rd in the original 300, Ikki Niko is a contender for the Blue Lock Project and continues to strive to let his fears go. Though he may have lost to Yoichi Isagi in the first selection, this has only lit the fire up his bum to do better. 

Off the field,  he tends to be arrogant and would be appreciative of other people who have the same ability as him. Despite his arrogance, he also has an insecurity… he hides his forehead with his bangs as he doesn’t like to show them in front of people. 

On the field, he is quite confident with his abilities in analyzing the field. This gives him a slight edge against Isagi when he was against Team Z. Regardless of losing to Isagi, he changes his arrogant ways and strives to become a better player. As a ball-winning defender, Niko’s vision allows him to read the entire field and become a tough defender to beat. He is quite an intelligent player, making sure that any danger is quickly exterminated, that the faster it’s squashed, the victory is near. 

Jyubei Aryu 

This tall, slender and eccentric forward would probably remind you of Henry Henderson for his constant saying of “ELEGANT”, but for Aryu, it’s “STYLISH”.  Initially, he started as a center back in the Blue Lock Eleven versus the Japan U-20. He’s considered one of the tallest players in Blue Lock, along with his height, is his long limbs that make him a formidable soccer player

Off the field, he likes to look and feel stylish in all aspects. He also likes it when people have a good sense of fashion and would often praise them for their “style.” However, not everything about him is stylish as he detests his own name, claiming it to be “unstylish.” He compensates for his old-fashioned name with stylish poses when he can. 

On the field, he makes use of his long limbs as he has incredible jumping power. His physique and abilities make him a great goal poacher, allowing him to score potential goals out of small opportunities. His long reach is by far his greatest weapon as he is able to reach the ball at a longer distance compared to his opponents. 

Kenyu Yukimiya 

Kenyu Yukimiya is another contender for the BL project and is known to have a medical condition called optic neuropathy. The more stress he adds to his body, the more stressed his eyes get as well. This poses a hindrance to his soccer career, but it doesn’t let him give up. Like the rest of the characters, Yukimiya is muscular in his build which suits his height. He wears glasses both in and out of soccer. When he plays, he wears a specialized pair of sunglasses when he plays and his regular prescribed pair.

Off the field, he has a likable and charismatic personality as he is able to make friends easily. Aside from his friendly nature, he likes to banter with his opponents, adding a dash of playfulness to his character. The key to this boy’s happiness is by getting warm support on the field and would get sad when he loses the one on one.

On the field, his physique suits him as a mobile striker as he is able to carry himself in one vs. one situations with either the last defender or the goalkeeper. His dribbling style is opposite to Bachira’s as he requires his own physique to keep up with his dribbling. 

Rin Itoshi 

Ah, this prodigy is the younger brother of Sae Itoshi and is considered to be the top player in terms of being a forward. He’s also managed to rank number 1 in all of Blue Lock, securing the spot with his amazing skills. Despite being younger than Isagi, he’s far superior in skills. He has a slim and powerful build that fits his current skill level. 

Off the field, he sets his dedication to becoming the best striker in the world. Initially having shared that dream with his brother, he was pumped with gradually surpassing him. However, Sae’s dream changed and that didn’t sit well with Rin. Because of the fallout with his brother, he became cold and distant from his teammates, which is also shown in Blue Lock. His whole personality probably revolves around soccer at this point, seeing that he dedicates his whole life routine to soccer. 

On the field, he’s cold and stubborn, capable of carrying the game by himself. It’s that type of ego that Jinpachi Ego wants in a striker. He tends to be mean towards his teammates but soon warms up to them at the Japan National Representative match, he starts to talk to them and strategize. Though, he continues to act like his brother with his cold demeanor and the way he speaks. 

Seishiro Nagi 

This cutie is recognized as one of the top players in Blue Lock. He currently serves as the right-hand man for Manshine City in the Neo Egoist League. He is naturally good at playing football that other players can’t match! With how effortless he can play the sport, it is like he was born for it! 

However, due to his innate capabilities, he tends to look down and make fun of weaker players. He believes he is skilled enough that he skips training and plays videos instead! But that won’t fly! After a loss to Isagi’s team, his fire lit up once again! 

Tabito Karasu 

Tabito Karasu is ranked as the 3rd best forward out of 300 in the Blue Lock Project and just one major hottie! He is the team’s defensive midfielder for Blue Lock Eleven during the match against the Japan U-20. Much like Seishiro, he has tendencies to look down on those who are inferior, calling them weak or mediocre. This might be the case, but he is intelligent and witty, that he often offends other people with his nasty tongue. He’s a formidable player who utilizes his analytical skills, extreme ball control, and feints!

Sae Itoshi 

Sae Itoshi is one of the main antagonists in the series. He’s an intelligent football player and well-known player in Japan. Despite being popular in Japan, he plays for the Real Madrid Youth Team. Much like other characters, he wants to become the best striker in the whole-wide world  But when he played for Spain, his aspirations changed! He decided to be the best midfielder ever! 

Like his sharp features, he can be straightforward, cold, and harsh! He can be very egotistical and pushes aside other people! Must be the Egoist Jinpachi is looking for! 

Conclusion

That’s about it for our Blue Lock Character list! Found anyone cute? Anyone husbando material? Or perhaps the goodest boy!? If you haven’t chosen anyone, that’s understandable! I can’t choose one either! They have so many abilities and skills as a player and as a character!
