12+ Manhwa Where The MC Is A God (WEBTOONS)

Updated May 12, 2024 by testing

Gods in fiction don’t often get the MC privilege, if you know what I mean. The thing is, gods/goddesses are better off as supporting characters, an antagonist, or even some random fella carved on a rock. But this time, we’ll prove them all wrong as we run a list of 13 Manhwa/Webtoon where the MC is a God.

In this list, we will see how stories could fare with a deity’s point of view. They might not be as relatable as your high school protagonist, but hey, these higher beings just mean they got bigger responsibilities. And I’m sure as heavens you do as well, but for now, save the responsibilities for later because we are getting started!

KOREAN WEBTOON WHERE THE MAIN CHARACTER IS A GOD (RECOMMENDATIONS)

13. Dawns the Gods

Starting off the list with something radiant, with Dawns The Gods. That’s it everyone, a poetic start to this list. In this manhwa, we follow the story of Chao, a deity whose life is on the brink of death for breaking the rule of Dawns.

Unlike other gods who dwell in the heavens, the Dawns are higher beings who are bound to wander the mortal realm. The rule of the Dawns is to follow their mischievous instincts as they stay with humans, something Chao failed to do as he gets attached to human emotions.

Overall, the story does not have the same godlike factor as the rest, but Chao’s story of love and regret does stir up a lot of emotions in its readers. Like I told ya, as a higher being, there are a lot of problems to bag, and the heart comes with it.

12. Twelve Month Deities

There are twelve months in a calendar, with one deity to represent each. With our main character, Kwongshan, as the eight-month god! But he didn’t know that until some greedy old man started trouble (like being a greedy old man isn’t trouble already) that led to Kwongshan accepting his role.

The story is quite fun with the variety of characters in it, such as the 11 other gods who have very interesting personalities and quirks that they give the Zodiac Signs a competition.

11. World of Gods

There is a different kind of shame for someone who fails to live up to their title, for example Ishtar, the goddess of love. For someone so selfish, greedy, and straight up awful, everyone would think she’s the goddess of jerks.

As punishment for being a thieving scoundrel, the gods sent Ishtar to a mortal’s body without any of her memories. Upon her return to her godly state, there’s nothing in her bag but problems and what’s left of her once godly powers.

And the overall tone of the story is rather… sceptical. It shows how the gods feed on the distress and desperation of humanity, or something alike. The manhwa falls short on the plot however, but it’s entertaining regardless and still worth the read.

10. I am an Evil God

With great beauty comes great responsibility. Our main character, being so beautiful, dies in our world and has to possess another pretty looking low-level martial artist. Not to mention, the guy seems in pretty bad shape himself, with his life-force slowly being drained after he got played by a vixen who cultivates points for her own.

Thankfully, our MC can utilize this RPG-like system to gather points that can help him prevent from losing life-force. What makes him an evil god you ask? His way of cultivating points is by feeding on people’s emotions, specifically girls.

Our MC isn’t a literal god that we know of, or a born divinity. But rather gained the title for himself by using his already superb skills to cultivate power points. Oh yes, the MC has a bit of a god complex too so that kinda wraps it up.

9. Athena Complex

Let’s continue this list with a classic Greek deity, the goddess of wisdom and tactical war herself, Athena. But this time Athena ironically goes to school. Being the goddess of wisdom, I wonder what’s left for her to learn? As I thought, what’s there to learn in high school for a goddess, she’s there for revenge! Yes, Athena is up for revenge against Poseidon’s reincarnation, Adrian, after the god rejected her.

But there’s a twist to her rather vengeful quest. She’s doing it in the body of a teenage boy but with the same name because… Why not? She’s the goddess of brains after all. It would be unwise to question her choices, wouldn’t it?

8. For the Sake of Sita

Let’s stay away from bloody action for a while because our next manhwa has someone afraid of blood, a doctor named Sanghin Han. Don’t worry, we’re not off track of our godly journey. Sanghin goes to Nepal and meets Sita, a young lady working in a red-light district. It didn’t take long for them to have each other’s hearts and so they went back to Korea and married.

This story has an amazing twist that only you are meant to find out, dear reader. Anyway, we also get to watch the story in Sita’s POV as she grows up in the red-light district, aiming to become a Kurami. A Kurami is a vessel for the Goddess Taleju.

There aren’t many characters in the story, thus our main characters have all the spotlight for their own, allowing us to dive deeper into their personalities without worrying about anyone from the sidelines. Despite the lack of characters, the story is still very enjoyable with Sanghin Han and Sita. Having this manhwa on our list gives us a refreshing change of pace. What it lacks in the godliness section makes up for everything else. The plot, character writing and art are superb, so go give this one a try!

7. Heaven Defying God of War

Let’s get back into action! Our next MC is quite the tough one, the mighty God of War, Ye Qingyun. He was a great warrior in his godly days, destroying many of the notable figures in the land. Until he was betrayed by Lou Ling, his lover, leading into a chain of events that led him to his downfall.

Once you hit rock bottom, the only way is up. Our MC ain’t really finished for good, as he is revived in the body of a rather weak mortal. Despite that, he still has a fraction of his strength to slowly rise back into power and seek vengeance against the treacherous gods and his past lover, which led to his demise.

There’s a lot of wicked characters in the story, and do expect violence in the first few chapters as our main character had to face the adversaries of his new life. The best thing about the manhwa is the mentality of Ye Qingyun, and how he manages the low-life mortality despite being a god in nature.

6. Reincarnation of the Suicidal Battle God

Not going to lie, this one is just another “go back in time” story that is often seen in webtoon. But don’t flip the table just yet, I know, I understand it’s getting redundant. There is a lot to enjoy with Reincarnation of the Suicidal Battle God that will have you on the edge of your seat. Our MC is not a traditional god but rather earns the title by overcoming hurdles with his wits and prowess.

Zephyr is such a badass that the gods gave him another fighting chance by sending him ten years into the past, back when he was a slave. It’s basically gods restarting the game because their character died, that’s there to it. But Zephyr is not the type to get played. The gods can enjoy his fights all they want, but he’ll be playing the game against evil on his own terms.

5. Eros Conquers All

Eros Conquers All

Another not-so-loving god of love in this list: The ancient god Eros, wandered the world as a playboy named Mark, who constantly harvests human love for his consumption. How? By snatching arrows off their hearts, turning them into apples, and taking a good juicy bite out of it. Gods sure have their way of fine dining, eh?

With his charming eyes, wavy black hair, and luscious tanned skin, who wouldn’t fall for such a romantic? Oh, and I did mention that he is the Greek god of love himself and knows all the ins and outs of anyone’s heart! If there’s one thing I knew from this list so far, deities of love are a bunch of goofsters that don’t get their job done right.

But hold on a minute, let’s not pull the fuse on this man just yet. The story centres around his character development and desire to be free from his godly appetite. On top of that, the artwork is superb and really showcases the beauty of every character.

4. Return of the Shattered Constellation

Known as the “Twilight of the Gods”, that title alone elevates Lee Changseon to the higher end of this list. He is also notorious for being an Abominable God, once a powerful Constellation guilty of mass murder and chaos in Arcadia. His actions led him to be banished into the underworld, but the God of Death, Thanatos, had other plans for him and his power.

After taking Thanatos’ offer, he revived our MC in the realm of mortals, ready to go after the oath-breaking gods on the loose and send them towards their rightful place in hell. We can already tell that this manhwa is going to be action packed! And Return of the Shattered Constellation does not fail to deliver our expectations!

The strongest suit for this manhwa has to be the art. In the first chapter, you will already see the wonderful background details in every scene, especially in the Underworld. All I’m saying is, the manhwa doesn’t miss in terms of art and action, and is definitely worth the read!

3. 4 God Ranger

In a world governed by two divine races: The Divine Beasts and the Sages. One day, the King of Sages dies and is expected to have his powers distributed to very few trusted allies. However, betrayal and mischief are no stranger to the gods and there are sages who dared to exploit these powers.

Our MC, Baek Hwi Bom, soon encounters one of the Celestial Gods, Byyako, a tiger headed persona right at his apartment. His presence would make sense in a kids’ birthday party, but if something like that appears in a grown man’s home, that tiger meant business.

Hwi Bom enacts Byakko’s will as his vessel, in the pursuit of those treacherous sages who messed up a hearty power distribution a while ago, saving the world in the process. Finally, some god who’s actually trying to save the world.

2. Call Me the Goddess of Vengeance

She said to call her the goddess of vengeance, and so we should, but at the beginning of the story, let us address her as “President”. Bai Xi-Yan’s career is at her prime. However, everything went in shambles after finding out she had a terminal illness. But that doesn’t seal her fate just yet, our MC is given a chance to defeat fate like she always does to everything she encounters. A chance given by a divine talking goose, if that doesn’t bring a chill to your spine, I don’t know what will.

The goose is actually a messenger for the goddess of vengeance, and our leading lady is the one to take the mantle. Bai Xi-Yan does her job by changing the fate of those women who died unjustly. She does her job by sitting on a throne with power in her hands, souls coming to her asking for vengeance. She’s a total baddie with an unfathomable god complex and a desire to always win.

Finally, for the top spot in our list we have none other than… *turns up an epic battle music* Asura! You heard that right, the battle-thirsty 6-armed Hindu deity. Asura is so powerful that there is nothing left in existence to give him a good fight.

Everything in this story is indeed platinum. No other god on this list can contend with Asura. He is a freak of nature and a badass. He might look like your typical battle-hardened bruiser MC, but he sure had a great share of character development.

asura 2 e1655058279308

What makes Asura much more interesting is its strong ties to both Buddhism and Hinduism. Almost every character in the story appears to have a symbolism that ties with Asian religion and philosophy. I swear by the stars, this manhwa is best read with attention to detail and in-depth understanding of religious concepts. But don’t worry, the portrayal is rather simple and there’s no need for a theology degree to enjoy them.

All things considered, Asura is a story that carries a powerful symbolism in a straightforward manner. With an MC like Asura, I guarantee you, there is not a dull moment in this manhwa series.

Conclusion

Going through the list, it’s no longer difficult to understand that gods are no less different from mortals in terms of struggle. Every god/goddess listed above has their own character and substance that transcends even godhood. They may be gods by birth or earned by title. It does not make any difference so long as these MC’s can deliver us godlike stories.

Feel free to try any of the manhwa listed above and you won’t regret it, I handpicked each of them to fit perfectly for any fan to enjoy regardless of where they are ranked. This has been QTA’s 13 Manhwa/Webtoon, Where the Main Character Is a God. Hope you enjoyed the read and, even better, enjoy scrolling through the pages of any of these webtoons in the future.
