25+ Best Anime Masks (RANKED)

Updated May 12, 2024 by testing

Life has been traumatic amidst the pandemic, so when people talk about masks, the first thing that comes to mind is surgical masks being worn to protect ourselves against COVID. Well, this list is not about that one.

We all know that masks really emphasize a character’s identity—somehow plotting the story in some ways. We want the character and the author’s ideas to be known. Well, I can say that masks really have a big impact in some cases.

Just like that typical scene when a mask is left after a chase, or that scene when a character plays two roles: with and without a mask. It’s kind of annoying for me in some cases when there are characters that remind me of someone from a previous anime I watched, a manga I read, or anything else the same.

Most newbies out there think that every anime character looks exactly the same. Well, I know it’s annoying, but I can’t blame them. Most of their basis for describing each character is just based on some accessories they wear. Well, that includes a mask, I guess.

Here, I present to you in this list, some anime masks that will help you build your character at your next con.

MASKS THAT ARE PERFECT FOR YOUR NEXT ANIME CON (RECOMMENDATIONS)

26. Bol’s Mask from Akame Ga Kill

Bol Akame Ga Kill

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
10/20 5/10 5/10 8/10 28/50

This first mask I have for you is not really the worst or the least liked on this list (well at least that’s what I think), but it is something I personally dislike. Well, for me, it appears like a person in the 1820s wearing that mask trying to combat and survive from that specific plague.

I don’t know if you’ve watched Akame Ga Kill already, but we, fans, all know that Bol has always been seen wearing that mask.

With that gasoline tank behind his back and that flamethrower, I don’t think you can really appear like Bol in your next con. Maybe you can, but in my case, sadly, I can’t. But, as for the mask, yeah, Bol’s mask is really something I can wear, and I also think it will fit you best!

25. Kagetane Hiruko’s Mask from Black Bullet

Kagetane Hiruko Black Mullet

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
15/20 4/10 5/10 5/10 29/50

This next mask I have for you is, I personally think, lame. I mean, you can find this kind of mask in some stores nearby. But, the reason for this mask’s being on this list is the fact that it gives some distinction to Black Bullet’s Kagetane. Not only that, that simple yet daring emotion really gives me the dread out.

The way that eyes and smiles combine makes it a bit creepy and traumatic in a way that I cannot even forget. It somehow reminds me of that killer-clown I am really frightened about.

You can really wear this mask if you really like Black Bullet. But in my case, I won’t.

24. Char Aznable’s Mask from Mobile Suit Gundam

Char Aznable Mobile Suit Gundam

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
11/20 7/10 4/10 7/10 29/50

This next mask I have for you is something worth wearing. I mean, this is another one that I grew up watching. Mobile Suit Gundam! If you’re not a fan, you may be considering watching it, right? Well, this is your sign to start.

To be honest, I personally don’t like how it looks. It’s just too weird for me. It appears like a bell-shaped bucket is being worn and is also sprinkled with some extra stuff to brighten up the design. It’s kind of bad for me to give criticism in that way, but I am just saying what I think the truth is. 🙁

But for you guys, if you want to excel in some areas, like combat on land, air, and space, I think the look of Char Aznable suits you best. You can start by wearing its mask.

23. Homura’s Mask from Sekirei

Homura Sekirei

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
17/20 4/10 4/10 5/10 30/50

This next mask I have for you is something I think is simple, yet so cool. I can’t imagine myself wearing it and still looking as hot as Homura.

Well, putting this mask on this list is somehow influenced by personal interest. I really liked Homura in some cases. I mean, I am not the only one, I think.

That mask was used by Homura to disguise himself with a long black coat. If you watched Sekirei, you’ll know the reason why. I’m not as cool as Homura, but I wouldn’t mind if I were you.

That plain-colored mask is so cool. Its presence is very captivating.  It’s just that, because it’s too plain, it almost only works (extra good) for natural hotties like Homura of Sekirei. But still, I am hoping to see you guys wearing Homura’s mask at your next con.

22. Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon

Tuxedo Mask Sailor Moon

Wearability Mask Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
19/20 3/10 5/10 3/10 30/50

This next one is something I am not really impressed with, but I still think it’s quite  memorable and nostalgic  for most of us that grew up watching anime. Well, I grew up watching Sailor Moon. The worst part is that I am watching it in a dubbed version. I disgust myself because of that. Well, for now, I think it’s normal. The memories it makes are what’s most important, though.

So, to continue, I really admire Tuxedo Mask. I mean, he is so cool when those girls are in trouble. Mamorou is already so cool, but a tuxedo mask? Oh yeah! A dream person I wanted to be, if not Sailor Moon. LOL!

I can wear not only the mask but also the outfit. It’s just that it reminds me of something so cool back then. Well, I don’t know about you, but I am somehow addicted to this one.

21. Anbu’s Mask from Naruto

Anbu Naruto

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
14/20 6/10 5/10 6/10 31/50

I know that most of you guys have watched Naruto, and I’m pretty sure that most of you are already aware of this mask. Well, as a weeb since birth, it is a requirement.

Although Anbu’s mask is not the reason for the story, it still gives a lot of distinctive characteristics to the main characters and the series itself.

Well, what do I think of this mask? It is something that I can wear, for sure. I can even clearly notice the details of what someone is really representing when wearing that mask.

If you think you’ll like this one, see you at your next con wearing Anbu’s Mask.

20. San’s mask from Mononoke Hime

San Mononoke Hime

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
10/20 7/10 5/10 9/10 31/50

If you’re talking about a mask that represents one of the most recognized features of a character, San’s mask from Mononoke Hime is really one of the most recommended ones I have here for you.

If you’ve seen Mononoke Hime, you should also be familiar with San and her mask. It is shown and given emphasis in the series. That red mask with wavy lines, ears, and three sunny yellow-colored holes.

Well, I find the mask weird and uninteresting. I don’t know. But I firmly believe that this is all just subjective, so don’t bash me guys. ;-(

You could actually wear that mask and it would look good on you… I think.

19. Overhaul’s Mask from My Hero Academia

Overhaul Demon Slayer

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
11/20 6/10 6/10 9/10 32/50

To tell you guys, this next one is really scaring me. At the same time, I also laugh at myself for being so scared of a mask that looks like a plague doctor’s mask. I mean, it’s really a plague doctor’s mask though. Yeah, it’s not that scary, but the pandemic is—I believe—traumatic for all of us.

But for Overhaul’s mask, if you’ve watched My Hero Academia, it somehow gives emphasis to some information about Kai. Well, it is his distinctive feature, though.

If you think Kai Chisaki is cool in some ways with that magenta plague doctor’s mask, you can actually start buying one online. I don’t know where, but it is easy to find.

18. Obito’s Mask from Naruto: Shippuden

Obito Naruto Shippuden

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
14/20 6/10 6/10 6/10 32/50

If you’ve ever watched Naruto: Shippuden, even though you’re not a fan, watching this one will really give you some deja vu about Tobi. Even non-weebs I know can name what Tobi or Obito from Naruto: Shippuden looks like. I think you can’t give any excuses now about not-knowing Tobi with his orange, weird-looking, one-eyed mask.

You have seen Tobi, right? I can’t tell you here why he wears a mask because it will only expose non-watchers or anime watchers who just started Naruto, some spoilers. So let’s talk about the design instead.

I don’t like how it looks as a mask alone. Tobi’s outfit is already good as a whole. But, the mask? It’s a no for me. I mean, it is designed very well, but I still find it weird.

I’m not going to wear this mask alone. But if we’re talking about the entire costume, give me that set and I’ll confidently model it out here in my place!

17. Noba’s Mask from Bleach

Noba Bleach

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
14/20 6/10 6/10 6/10 32/50

The next one is Noba. If you have watched Bleach, then I am pretty sure you have seen Noba with his zippered mask—only to reveal some parts of his face. If not, then it’s not my fault anymore. LOL! Just kidding!

He is a young man who is dedicated to achieving his goal, as evidenced by the blue shield on his back, which I believe is used in conjunction with his powers.

You can also act like Noba in some cases, with too much power, I guess. You can start by wearing his mask.

16. Shinigami’s Mask from Naruto

Shinigami Naruto

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
13/20 7/10 6/10 7/10 33/50

When we say “Shinigami,” what comes first to mind is the “God of Death”. Well, for this mask entry, it is owned by a Shinigami—not in Death Note—but in Naruto.

You may not be aware of it or maybe you’re just impassive about it, but Shinigami in Naruto have one of the most terrifying masks I’ve ever seen. Well, it does deserve much recognition, but it is still frightening in some ways.

Wearing that mask will only make you appear like you’re trying to devour the person you’re talking to. If you wear it, I don’t want to talk to you anymore! Just kidding! This mask is used by the Uzumaki clan, but this time, it is your turn to use it!

15. Kaibaman’s Mask from Yu-gi-oh! Gx

Kaibaman Yu gi oh

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
13/20 7/10 6/10 7/10 33/50

Another anime on this list I grew up watching will introduce a mask with cards. Well, we all know that Yu-gi-oh is a card game, unless you have no idea. However, Yu-gi-oh is more than just drawing cards and battling; it also gives emphasis to some social issues that our society is facing, like climate change.

This mask is for a character that happens to appear in only one episode. Well, it is somehow amazing how that dragon-style mask-like headdress appears to give him his distinctive characteristics.

Well, if you want to stand out, you can wear this one to your next con, and there will be only a few people who will notice who you are.

14. Inosuke Hashibara’s Mask from Demon Slayer

Inosuke Hashibara Demon Slayer

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
12/20 8/10 6/10 8/10 34/50

I am really amazed, but I am not going to wear it. This next mask is a boar’s head. I know it sounds weird, but this mask really exists in some online stores. Well, it’s just a mask that Inosuke wears, but I really can’t imagine existing with the head of a boar.

You guys, I think you should wear this one because I really think it is best suited for you all. You can charge to experience it if it’s not good, but I am sure it is really good for you all.

13. Licht’s Mask from Plunderer

Licht Plunderer

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
16/20 5/10 6/10 7/10 34/50

This next character is known to wear a Japanese theatrical mask. Well, at first glance, I personally don’t like masks in this design and colors, but, the more you look into it, the details really give more than a Japanese cultural impression.

I have seen people wearing that mask, and trust me, they look good in it. If you’ve watched Plunderer, you’ll easily recognize whose mask it is at first glance.

12. Hei’s Mask from Darker Than Black

Hei Darker Than Black

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
16/20 5/10 7/10 7/10 35/50

This mask I have for you is quite similar to Kagetane’s mask of Black Bullet. But, for this one, it is a lot better. A smile that isn’t weird at all, eyes that are really captivating, and that appealing mark above his eye. This really fits some vibes of an appealing but wild character that most girls are really obsessed with.

If you think that mark means nothing, well, I can tell you more about that… but, I won’t because it’s not my duty to spoil  you haha! Instead, you can watch it and wear Hei’s  mask on your next con!

11. Shin Ah’s Mask from Yona of the Dawn

Shin Ah Yona of the Dawn

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
13/20 8/10 7/10 8/10 36/50

This one is a bit cooler than any mask on this list. Yeah, I know some of you haven’t watched Yona of the Dawn, but trust me, this next mask on this list is surely the best deal.

It is a horned skull mask covering the upper parts of his face, only to reveal his mouth and chin. Yeah, the mask he has is convenient given that you don’t even have to take your mask off if you feel like eating, unlike that known mask we have right now.

The main purpose of this mask is to prevent people looking into his eyes. Yeah, a stare eye-to-eye is dangerous. Like medusa: one stare and you’ll turn into stone, and your crush: one stare and it will make you fall. :-0

I know you’re looking for some kind of defense mechanism, this mask will really help you protect yourself from that deadly stare.

10. Mystogan’s Mask from Fairy Tail

Mystogan Fairy Tail

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
16/20 7/10 7/10 6/10 36/50

This next anime is really one of the best fantasy anime I’ve watched. But, it’s really rare to find a character that wears a mask. I don’t know, maybe they’re just confident or just too lazy to wear a mask—well, it could be, but it’s a good thing that this next character exists in Fairy Tail.

What I liked about Mystogan’s mask is the details. I’m just kidding, it doesn’t have enough details about it. He even looks like the public transportation drivers on our street that try to cover up their faces while driving.. Hmmm, cultural differences can’t relate. That’s why it made it into this list. It has some kind of worth-remembered value to me.

Mystogan is a former S-class mage. Well, the only purpose of his mask is to hide his identity from his guildmates. You can also be an S-class mage and become one of the most powerful characters in Fairy Tail.

9. Senbonzakura’s Mask from Bleach

Senbonzakura Bleach

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
14/20 7/10 7/10 8/10 36/50

Okay, this next mask features the Zanpakuto spirit. It is some kind of weird, intricate mask that fully covers the face. I mean, it is not weird for some, but there are people that find this random. Yeah, there are details, but it is still not something some people can wear. I mean, it is too heavy, I think. I don’t have one, but I’m just assuming you do. LOL! I’m kind of the worst type of person to assume stuff.

But for the details, the colors, the story behind the character, and its significance to Byakuka Kuchiki, it really gives some meaning why Senbonzakura is something you should present at your next con.

8. Sogeking’s Mask from One Piece

Sogeking One Piece

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
14/20 8/10 7/10 8/10 37/50

If you have watched One Piece, you’ll really know why this one is here on this list. To tell you guys, Usopp is one of the coolest characters I think I’ve ever seen in One Piece.

For the mask, Sogeking or Usopp have that golden sun-like mask. It has three rays pointing in different directions—I personally think it is weird.

Even though I find it not-so-likable, on behalf of my obsession with One Piece, I’m still going to wear that mask.

How about you? Aren’t you going to do the same? It is highly recommended, though.

7. Kaonashi’s Mask from Spirited Away

Kaonashi Spirited Away

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
16/20 7/10 8/10 7/10 38/50

Let me assume that you have watched Spirited Away. I mean, it is one of the most watched anime of all time. It’s not really a thing to miss this out. Unless you’re that uncultured. LOL!

For the design, I really think that Kaonashi’s mask is kinda scary. I mean, it’s his role to scare people. Not exactly, but spirits should, I think, appear scary, in some cases.

We all know what happened here in Spirited Away, right? You can actually watch it if you have no ideas yet. But, for real, Kaonashi’s mask is worth the top of this recommendation, I highly recommend it!

You can wear it next time and start ghosting people. Not really ghosting, hmmmm, spiriting is the word I think. LOL!

6. Gin’s Mask from Hotarubi no Mori e

Gin Hotarubi no Mori e

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
16/20 8/10 8/10 7/10 39/50

This next mask is one of the most worn anime masks ever, based on my personal statistics lol! But, for real, this mask is really something I am used to seeing. Upon scrolling through my social media news feeds, I usually see some masks like this Gin’s from the anime movie Hotarubi no Mori e.

You could be asking why I put this mask here, right? Well, to tell you, if you’re not a fan, or haven’t watched the series yet, I can assure you that Gin’s Mask is really worth being on this list.

This is not about the design or the details incorporated in the mask, but the story itself. The mask was owned by a forest lord, then given to baby Gin to make him look a lot like a spirit. I know you read it in a lame way, but that’s not it. I can’t tell you more than that because it’s your obligation to watch it.

I really want to look like that. I mean, in some cases I’m still afraid, but having to look like a spirit is a really big deal. But, I’m sure it will suit you best.

5. Tanjiro’s Mask from Demon Slayer

Tanjiro Demons Slayer

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
17/20 9/10 8/10 7/10 41/50

I can assume that some of you know this one. This character really shook the anime world. In some cases, Tanjiro of Demon Slayer is a person we see wearing his mask. But, his mask is really the mask I like a lot. It really gives me some Japanese vibes in the form of a fox-shaped mask with some red accents on it.

Well, there are no special features to his mask that I can tell, but I know that Tanjiro is really powerful.

Well, you can mask your powers and show everyone your capabilities. See you at your next con wearing Tanjiro’s mask.

4. Kaneki’s Mask from Tokyo Ghoul

Kaneki Tokyo Ghoul

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
18/20 8/10 8/10 8/10 42/50

Some of you might think that Kaneki’s mask should be at the top of this list, right? Well, I can say that they all deserve to be number one, but some of them are influenced by the hype caused by the people.

Personally, I liked Kaneki’s mask. It somehow reminds me of my time where I got addicted a lot to Tokyo Ghoul, I mean, I am still addicted.. It’s just that, the art is quite creepy but it’s still really good though!

His mask plays a big role in Tokyo Ghoul. Maybe some of you have seen someone cosplayed as Kaneki  or maybe you  already have the mask—something that people who have a serious addiction to Tokyo Ghoul would most like to have.

Well, regardless of the reasons, Kaneki’s mask is still one of the best masks to wear at your next con!

3. Zero’s Mask from Code Geass

Zero Code Geass

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
16/20 8/10 10/10 9/10 43/50

If we’re talking about masks, we can’t miss this one. Lelouch vi Britannia and Zero have a difference of one mask. It is quite amazing, right? A character who takes on the roles of two people. Well, it’s kind of complicated.

If you haven’t watched Code Geass yet, then you clearly can’t relate to the line “you’re now under my Geass.” Zero and Lelouch can do that. The power to control everyone and give any order to be followed.

But as for the mask, I think it’s kind of weird because there’s no way I can see through that black face cover. But, the image it represents is really something I am happy to wear and show you guys!

2. Ichigo’s Hollow Mask from Bleach

Ichigo Hollow Mask Bleach

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
17/20 9/10 10/10 9/10 44/50

I know you know Ichigo from Bleach, right? Well, if not, then it’s your time to really cope with anime. Ichigo Kurusaki has 2 extreme and powerful forms: Hollow Mask and the Fullbring Bankai. Well, for this one, we’re going to talk about the mask alone in that Hollow Mask form.

If you’re going to ask me, the mask on the Hollow Mask form of Ichigo is the type of mask I can wear. There are only a few people who have famously cosplayed Ichigo’s Hollow Mask, so wearing one means a lot.

The mask itself feels like so much power. If you really want to be as powerful as Ichigo, I recommend wearing Ichigo’s mask at your next con.

1. Kakashi’s Mask from Naruto

Kakashi Naruto

Wearability Distinction Plot Influence Style Total
19/20 10/10 9/10 7/10 45/50

Number one on our list is Kakashi’s mask. We all know Kakashi and also the thing behind that mask. If you have no idea, then it’s your time to cope by watching one of the best anime to exist. A lot of people I see are cosplaying Kakashi with his scar.

The mask has some major contributions. First, obviously, it hides the scar. Second, it covers the one-eyed sharingan he has after losing it in the third great shinobi war. Third, maybe to protect himself from a plague. I don’t know if it’s true, but I heard that Kakashi has been wearing that mask for a long time, even before we started wearing it. LOL!

Kakashi’s mask is simple, which is considered to be one of the reasons it topped this list. This results in you having a good chance of being Kakashi at your next con.

Conclusion

ezgif.com gif maker 3

I know there are some other anime characters that wear masks. Well, I cannot list everything though. It will only take me months of unfinished writing and watching everyone who wears a mask.

Yeah, this list is kind of worth it, especially since masks are mandatory in some places while encouraged in others. Looking for an anime that wears a mask for cosplay is really worth some time. Yeah, you can dress up like your favorite anime character while at the same time following the rules to avoid COVID.

Okay guys, that’s all for this blog! I hope that you’ll enjoy your next con, and make sure to use items that will help save the Earth! Sayonara!
